DIY Sea Salt Face ScrubI have been working diligently to remove all kinds of different toxins and chemicals from my life. Living in Portland it is easy to eat organic with so many amazing farmer’s markets and natural food stores. Another area that I have begin to change is my bath and body care and especially what I put on my face including cleansers, moisturizers and makeup. Doing this has brought me back to some basic ingredients and sea salt and coconut oil are two of my favorites. In addition to coconut oil’s long list of wonderful uses, it is my daily makeup remover. It is so gentle on the skin, adds an extra dose of moisture, and with its natural antibacterial properties, it also helps prevent acne. I gently cover my face as it melts to the warmth of my fingers, let it sit for a minute while I brush my teeth, then use a warm wet washcloth to remove the excess. Coconut oil is great for removing mascara too and is very gentle on the eyes. Once a week I like to do a face exfoliation with my sea salt and coconut oil scrub. There are some great sugar scrub recipes out there, but since I am working to remove refined sugar from my diet, why would I want to put it on my face? Sea salt also has so many healing properties. It removes the dead skin cells, pull toxins from the skin and leave my skin feeling smooth and fresh. All of this with just two ingredients! I keep my face care in these cute little Weck jars. The larger ones stay in my medicine cabinet for easy access and the mini versions are sealed and ready for travel. Of course I have to have pretty labels for the lids and today you can also download and print these chalkboard style labels. They are ready to print onto full sheet labels and trimmed with a 1.5 inch and 2 inch circle punch. As far as the recipes go, well. . . for the coconut oil makeup remover, just melt it and pour into your jar. For the face scrub, mix 1 part melted coconut oil to 2 parts sea salt and spoon into your jars. Very simple! I like to use the extra fine Himalayen pink sea salt from The Spice Labs and Nutiva organic coconut oil. Enjoy! ~ Lia
