A very round robin
We have been eager to update and expand our collection of needle-felted cuties using the New Zealand Corriedale wool that is now in our shop. Once you have collected the tools and materials listed here, you can print the bird template below that will give you not only the pattern for the felt base for the wings and tail but a size chart for the base and head of the bird.

Spring is in the air! And to share the sunny days with our newest needle-felted bunny, out pops an adorable needle-felted robin with his round, orange belly.
Below you will find the template for this sweet, little bird along with a step-by-step photo tutorial to help you craft him.
Skill level: Beginner
Crafting tip: My tip for any needle-felting beginner is to allow yourself time to sculpt with your needle. Start with the courser needle to create your base form as this will compact the felt quickly. As your needle-felted robin takes shape, move up to the middle with the finer needle. You can create a smooth, even finish for your bird with the finest needle.
How to Make a Needle-Felted Robin
- Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download the template above.
- Using the natural white wool, create an egg shape to match size of template.
- Using the natural white wool, create a half circle dome for the head to match the size on the template.
- Attach dome head to wide end of egg body.

Hi Victoria, the beak is made from a small piece of felt that’s rolled up and glued. It’s included in the PDF pattern.
I am new to felting and have just made the robin. I now want to make the wings and tail feathers. Am I right in thinking the only way to get the pattern download is to pay for membership.

Hi! Yes, the patterns and templates for most of our projects are available with a paid membership. You’re of course welcome to create your own version of wings and feathers if you prefer 🙂

Your needle felted Robin is cute, but I live in the UK, and have robins in my garden, and they do not have a grey back… , wings and tail… They are brown .
There are lots of types of robins! Maybe we will do a brown robin next 🙂

My gosh, by the time you all have created all your birds in mind (is that possible?) I will be a bird maker. So darned adorable while being so sweet. Love them all. Hope I can do them justice. Need to find out where I can buy roving and felting needle to make these. Your bird tutorials are wonderful, very understandable and easy to follow.
Hope you are all recovered from New Years and Christmas. Have all your decorations down and packed away? That’s job I could do without but have to get storage box for new stuff purchased at $tree before holidays and surgery. Think I”m going to go thru all my older decorations this summer die thrift store and/or yard sale, stay with simple, liking how much easier it was this year. Enuf but not too much and was so much easier to take down get organized, just need box for storage.
Boy every darn germ going around seems to hit me, second week after surgery had stomach flu now have bad cold and sore throat, congestion, yuk, Slept most of today away trying to feel better, took shower finally and feel almost human. Hope no nasty germs going around in Portland.

Thank you! I am loving how the felted animals are turning out too 🙂 You should be able to find roving wool and needles at most craft stores or fabric stores. We’re hoping to do many more felted animals, so look out for those too! We are officially done with all things Christmas and now moving on to Valentine’s Day and springtime crafts. Hopefully it inspires some sunshine for us!
