Felt Woodland Fall Pocket Pals
Back in April we made some felt treetop pocket pals for our very first Craft Collection. The response was so amazing that we knew we needed to create another set! So for our fall-inspired collection, Krista designed these adorable felt woodland pocket pals.
This project includes the pattern and tutorial to make a fox, bear, and squirrel — ready for a snooze in their fall leaf beds. To get started, check out our tools and materials list on the right hand side of this post. Then follow our step-by-step instructions.

Fall in love with pocket pals
We can’t get over how adorable these tiny pocket pals are! Altogether this project uses five different stitches including blanket stitches, whip stitches, backstitch, satin stitch, and a double-running stitch. If you need to brush up on your stitching knowledge or want to learn how to do these stitches, make sure to check our embroidery guide for tutorials.
Crafting Tips: Like the treetop pals, we recommend cutting the pieces for these felt woodland pocket pals by hand due to their small size. They do require itty bitty stitches. So if you’re interested in an easy no-sew version, you can assemble a flat version of the animals instead using tacky glue and a fine point fabric marker for the faces.

How to Make Felt Woodland Pocket Pals
- Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download the pattern on the right hand side at the top of this post.
- Cut out felt pieces according to pattern using scissors. It is highly recommended you take the time to cut this project by hand because the Cricut Maker might have a hard time cutting the small pieces accurately.
- Whip stitch the details onto the heads using one strand of matching embroidery floss.
- Whip stitch on the eyes and the fox’s nose using one strand of matching floss (alternatively, you can satin stitch these details if you’re feeling confident). Satin stitch a tiny triangular shaped nose or the bear using one strand of black floss. Backstitch the mouths and squirrel’s nose using two strands of black floss. Sew two short stitches in black by each of the squirrel’s eyes.

how many animals can I make with one sheet of felt of each color? im trying to make about 10 of these for birthday party favors, just trying to determine how much felt I should buy. 🙂 thank you!
Hi! You should be able to get 7-8 animals per sheet, depending how close you cut each pattern 🙂

You refer to a ladder stitch to attach the body parts of the critters. I am unfamiliar with a ladder stitch. What does it look like and how do you do it?

I love these felt pocket pals!!!
However when I go to use the SVG file I am having a problem.
When I go to cut the pieces it is telling me that The project is not supported by my machine.
I have the cricut maker. It is also saying to resolve select OK and adjust affect layers???
Also when I try to reduce the images it will not allow me to.
Any suggestions?

Help I’ve gone on my members site to download the felt studies for October and there isn’t a pattern as you have previously had? What am I doing wrong?

So when I go to download the October Stuffies I only get colored pictures no pattern.other treetop stuffies I got both the colored picture as well as a pattern.
The PDF link was incorrect and I just fixed it a few minutes ago– try downloading again 🙂
