Baby BlanketSponsoredBy_SpoonflowerWhen I was growing up, my sisters and I loved sewing our clothes so that we could create our own unique fashions. I even sewed my own wedding dress! When my daughter was born, I continued with this tradition and made a whole wardrobe of adorable outfits for her. If you are wanting to explore the world of sewing machine projects to make goodies for your own kids, making a blanket is a great starting point. Here is a simple technique to create an oh-so-soft baby blanket with oh-so-cute patterns designed by our fabulous illustrator Krista!

Making your own baby blanket is super simple with just a basic sewing machine. You can even make an exact replica of our baby blanket by finding the fabrics on Spoonflower! Our safari blanket is two-sided. The top side of our blanket includes a pattern with cute safari animals like zebras, giraffes, and elephants, while the bottom side has a pretty spotted watercolor pattern in a light blue and green color scheme. Start by choosing your material. We used an oh-so-soft Minky, but fleece would also be a great option for making a warm and cozy blanket for your little one. The pattern is tiled, so you will be able to order any fabric that you would like. Our baby blanket measures 3 feet x 3 feet (1 yard), but you can order any yardage that you prefer. To sew the blanket, simply use a top stitch to sew the two pieces of fabric together on the back side of the blanket. We folded the top pattern over to create a 2-3 inch frame around the back side. To finish the blanket, we then created some easy box corners for a polished look. Follow the step-by-step photo tutorial below to guide you through the sewing process!
