DIY Felt Pinecones

We have a very big project we are working on here in our studio. We were recently asked by Hayneedle to redesign a children’s bedroom using our own selection of products from their online store. We have been crazy busy putting together a cute camping themed bedroom for Anna’s (our product manager) boys and over the coming weeks we will be sharing some of the handcrafted products we designed to make the room extra special.

First up are these cute felt pine cones made using egg shaped balls and brown and green felt. To make these pine cones you can use the template below to cut your felt then simply glue it around the ball, starting at the top and working your way down to the bottom, layering your circles as you go. The little loop at the top is there because we are planning to use it along with felt acorns as a campy garland in the new space.

Of course they are also a great idea for the winter holidays, but I also love them as summer campy decorations. Not only will they make a cute garland, but I can see them gathered in a twiggy bowl on the center of a table. could you tell me what color felts you used for the pinecones and greens and do you sell the foam eggs? thank you

  Hi Connie! We made this project six years ago, so I can’t quite remember the exact colors, but you can use our brown felt, and I think either our eucalyptus or olive felt colors would look nice with it. We don’t sell foam eggs in our shop, but we do spell spun cotton eggs if you want to take a look here: https://feltpaperscissors.com/product-category/spun-cotton/. If you want to get the foam eggs, we got these from Floracraft, or they should be at any type of craft store.

Pinecones are one my favorites!!
I was wondering about how many small circle and how many of the larger ones you would need to make one pinecone?
I am hoping to buy some pre-cut circles from
Benzie design.

Hi Lia, How have I not discovered you and your fabulous tutorials before now? What an amazing selection of things to try. I really appreciate the time and effort that you must have put into designing and producing these wonderful patterns. I have subscribed, and now can’t wait to start cutting and sewing. Just love your pinecones! I sure don’t care for them at times, since I have millions of them each year to pick up and get rid of on my property. These will be much softer and desirable. Thanks for sharing your pattern.
