Become a MemberI so look forward to pomegranate season and it is now here! Not only do I love the juicy red color (that look so great in photos) but also the fact that the pomegranate is considered super food and full of all kinds of good nutrition. Today I am featuring these gorgeous pomegranates from The Fruit Company, a local gift company in Hood River, about 1 hour east of Portland situated at the banks of the Columbia River. Hood River is known for its amazing fruit orchards and stunning views of Mt. Hood. The Fruit Company has been my go-to gift for years, as I love to send healthy gourmet gifts that everyone loves. As a family owned company grow much of their own fruit and source the fruits that don’t grow in this climate from the best orchards. What is not to love about that? Needless to say, I was quite pleased when they asked me to photograph these gorgeous pomegranates and design a printable recipe card and jar labels for the absolutely delicious relish recipe from Ashley, an Oregon food writer from Local Haven. I had this relish for dinner last night and it is now my new favorite. It has just enough sweet and tart with a savory edge from the shallots. The pop of the fresh pomegranates in this cranberry relish simply put it on another level of yumminess. I will be serving this homemade relish recipe with my Thanksgiving dinner next week and I highly suggest that you give this recipe a try as well. I think you will love it! Lia, if I make this for gifts, do I need to keep it refrigerated? The recipe says to serve it (not put in jars), so I was wondering how to keep it preserved.
I would keep it refrigerated. I made a large batch for Thanksgiving and ate it for a week. Still delicious. And I kept it in the fridge.
Lia, Your recipe card is lovely. Thank you for sharing. I thought I would take your recommendation and try something different and make this for dinner Thursday, but I have a question. The little seeds inside the pomegranate fruit are pretty hard. Do they soften up in with the other ingredients?
So sorry for the delay. . . Thanksgiving is over, but this is great for the next month. The seeds don’t seem to be an issue really. I love the pop of the whole poms when eating this relish. I put it on my cream cheese bagel for breakfast today. YUM!
