DIY Felt Pinecones
We have a very big project we are working on here in our studio. We were recently asked by Hayneedle to redesign a children’s bedroom using our own selection of products from their online store. We have been crazy busy putting together a cute camping themed bedroom for Anna’s (our product manager) boys and over the coming weeks we will be sharing some of the handcrafted products we designed to make the room extra special.
Goodies You Can't Google
You've found a member-exclusive project. But for less than the price of a fancy coffee... You'll get instant access to this and over 2,000 other premium projects inside the Lia Griffith membership!
Become a MemberFirst up are these cute felt pine cones made using egg shaped balls and brown and green felt. To make these pine cones you can use the template below to cut your felt then simply glue it around the ball, starting at the top and working your way down to the bottom, layering your circles as you go. The little loop at the top is there because we are planning to use it along with felt acorns as a campy garland in the new space.
Of course they are also a great idea for the winter holidays, but I also love them as summer campy decorations. Not only will they make a cute garland, but I can see them gathered in a twiggy bowl on the center of a table. Check back in a couple days for our felt fishing game and in the next few weeks for more of our camp themed DIY projects. We will share the full room reveal later in July – I’m not sure who is more excited, Anna’s boys or us. Sign up for our daily emails at the foot of the homepage if you would like a little handcrafted inspiration straight to your inbox or follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest for all the latest from the Lia Griffith studio. Enjoy! ~ Lia

May I recreate this for commercial purpose?
Hi! This pattern is for personal use only and can’t be used for commercial purposes. Thanks so much for checking with us!
could you tell me what color felts you used for the pinecones and greens and do you sell the foam eggs? thank you
Hi Connie! We made this project six years ago, so I can’t quite remember the exact colors, but you can use our brown felt, and I think either our eucalyptus or olive felt colors would look nice with it. You can explore our felt colors here: https://feltpaperscissors.com/product-category/felt-sheets/. We don’t sell foam eggs in our shop, but we do spell spun cotton eggs if you want to take a look here: https://feltpaperscissors.com/product-category/spun-cotton/. If you want to get the foam eggs, we got these from Floracraft, or they should be at any type of craft store.
Is there an SVG file for these?
Hi Kim,
We will get working on an SVG file for these pine cones, please check back soon! 🙂
Will there be .SVG for the pine cones anytime soon? I would love to use my Cricut Maker for this!
Jill,
We will be adding an SVG file for this project please check back soon 🙂
Pinecones are one my favorites!!
I was wondering about how many small circle and how many of the larger ones you would need to make one pinecone?
I am hoping to buy some pre-cut circles from
Benzie design.
Thank you so much for your help!!
Barb
Hi Barb! The PDF template lists all the details you need to make this pinecone 🙂
Hi Lia, How have I not discovered you and your fabulous tutorials before now? What an amazing selection of things to try. I really appreciate the time and effort that you must have put into designing and producing these wonderful patterns. I have subscribed, and now can’t wait to start cutting and sewing. These gorgeous cones will be my first attempt!
Looking forward to following your future inspirations,
Judy xx
Thank you so much, you made our day!
Looking for tutorial. Did I miss it somewhere? Found link to print out templates but no tutorial. Help? Great project, loving it, need to know how. Thanks
There are instructions in the post and template PDF 🙂
Thanks for come back on how-to Lia. Can hardly wait to make these and the acorns, what fun. Wish we still lived in MT where it’s ok to have pine cones out all year. More reasons than that, of course, but one of them. Happy week
Maybe you can start a new trend where you live, I don’t see anything wrong in pine cones all year round;-)
Just love your pinecones! I sure don’t care for them at times, since I have millions of them each year to pick up and get rid of on my property. These will be much softer and desirable. Thanks for sharing your pattern.
You are so welcome, Julia! Acorns coming.
Thank you 😀
Love these!! Natural but classy 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
