DIY Colorful Fall Doormat
Tomorrow I’ll be showing you my Fall front porch decor (including my felt leaf wreath). Today I wanted to show you how to make the colorful Fall doormat that I made for the same space. I have designed a few doormats over the years. It’s a simple way of re-vamping your entrance without spending a fortune. A simple sisal doormat is easy to pick up from your local hardware store or Ikea. I started by painting the doormat in a solid base color using spray paint. Once that is dry, mark out the design with masking tape and spray the open spaces in a variety of colors. I like to use a satin or glass spray paint and found these colors at my local Michaels store. They match the pillows and throw used on my porch perfectly.
When the paint is dry you can peel off the masking tape and your Fall doormat is ready to be used. Enjoy! ~ Lia

Leave a CommentI absolutely love the idea of having a seasonal front door mat! I struggle with my garden, and our front door opens straight onto the steps, at present, but this is something I could do to smarten up the doorstep which, after all, is the first impression anyone gets as they arrive! I would love to do more seasonal designs, and perhaps even make them into gifts! Brilliant idea and so much inspiration from it! Thank you for sharing ~M x
Thank you so much for your sweet comment:-)
Great looking doormat. Just one thing – does spraying it with paint have an adverse effect on it’s efficacy as an actual doormat? Cos if it doesn’t I may be heading for the DIY store for some paint for ours!
I have not noticed any adverse effect, I usually do a new one each season. I did a couple last year that have lasted my all year.
Always something wonderful here. The door mat is gorgeous. Thank you Lia.
Thank you so much:-)
What a great craft idea! Score another one for TEAM LIA!
Haha, thank you!
Looks like a fun project…love the colors you used. Will be searching for a sisal doormat this weekend…searching means driving at least 31 miles to a town with stores…BJ
Wow, that is ways away! Hope you find some good things!
Like it a lot, but if you spray it all one color and then use masking tape, the masked lines will be( in your case, blue) or does the paint peel off the sisal when you remove the tape?
I had no problem with the paint peeling off but make sure that the paint is completely dry before you adhere the tape.
