Become a MemberWintertime is here and it’s the perfect season for getting cozy. As I transition my home decor between the seasons, I always love setting out a pretty arrangement of candles for the colder months. Mantelpieces, coffee tables and centerpieces are all great to style with candles – any extra light in the winter is a good thing! As much as we love candles, we have never really tried making our own. So now we’re changing that with these homemade beeswax candles.
To start this project, download the printable instructions below. There you will find a complete list of materials. Mainly you will need beeswax sheets and wicks. Find links for both in Shop this Project! Once you have your materials, you can start customizing the size of your beeswax. We wanted to create some variety in our homemade beeswax candles, so we cut our wax sheets to three sizes using a craft knife. You can use a ruler to help you cut in a straight line. Next, cut your wicks 1 inch longer than the height of the candles. The beeswax sheets we used came with their own wicks, but they are a bit thin, so we added a link below for a thicker cotton wick that will work better for this project.
When your beeswax and wicks are trimmed, you can start rolling them up to form the candles. As you can see from the photo tutorial, the first step in rolling the candles is placing the wick in the center. The beeswax is a stiff, so we used a hair dryer to soften it up before rolling. Once you start rolling, decide how thick you’d like to make your candles. We used the 10 sheets in the beeswax pack to create 3 candles in total. After you finish rolling, there are plenty of things you can do to dress up your new homemade beeswax candles! We added little papercut bees and a honeycomb pattern – find the SVG file for those below. Then we wrapped some jute for a rustic touch. To add a bit of greenery, we snipped a couple sprigs of cypress.
These candles are great for gifts, especially hostess gifts. If you want to give these out to loved ones, we designed some printable gift tags that you can download below! Print the gift tags onto cardstock, or print the labels onto full sheet label paper to create coordinating matchboxes. Because we love creating DIY projects and designs for wedding, we also want to mention that you can craft up some homemade beeswax candles as bridal party gifts, wedding favors or DIY decorations. They match our Honey Bee Wedding Set perfectly! Head over to our membership page to start downloading, or leave a comment below with some of the projects you’d like to see us make next. Cheers! ~ Lia and the Team
