I made it over a year ago using a thrift store frame that I painted teal and filling the space with a chalkboard paint covered piece of foam board. At the time I used the foam board because it was handy and fast and did the job in making this prop for a shoot. Now months later, I am realizing how handy the chalkboard and pin board combo can be. My new friend and neighbor Gracie agreed! We used the chalkboard to shoot her first-day-back-to-school photo and then had fun decorating it how she might use it for her bedroom. If you do not have a framed chalkboard yet, give this version a try. The good thing is you can always replace the foam board then ever you need. You can see where this chalkboard pin board is used in my studio in the photos below. Enjoy! Lia

You can put chalkboard paint on about anything. Just find a board the right size and paint it!

I have these all over my house. 🙂
I’m a beginner in crafting and I love how simple and straightforward your projects are! They make me feel like I can do anything! I’m so inspired by you! Thank you, thank you for all you do..!
Thank you for your note. This is EXACTLY my goal and my mission. . . to inspire everyone, even those who do not think they are as crafty, to remember that they are. 😉
Aloha, I purchased your chalkboard style pantry label. Made them and love them, but I have another list of labels to make and can’t find them on my computer. Is it an online file? and how can I get to it again? Would really appreciate your help. Company coming and want to finish my pantry. Looks great!

Oh boy. Remind me, was it a custom order from Etsy? If so then go look in your order or conversation history and it will be there. If not, let me know and we can keep looking.
I make the same sort of black/chalkboard but I use black foam core boards available at most art shops in loads of sizes and colours. No paint needed – you only have to remember to use a dry cloth or paper towel to remove writing when you want to change it.

I will do it. Thanks Tracy!
This really a great idea…I can see many uses for this chalk/pin board. Great for a kids room…would be great in the kitchen….would be great in my office….would be great in Den for up coming vacation ideas….would be great for wish lists anywhere. What size frame did you use?
Love It…Love it …Love it!!!!
My frame opening is 18×24 inches. I use this chalkboard everywhere too. Mostly in my office as that is where it lives, but for so many photo shoot props and parties too. Ideas are endless.
Thankyou, I’ll have a look in my local HobbyCraft today! Excited 🙂
I am sure they have it! 🙂
Had to pin this project as well. I just might have some foam board/core I can use with a bigger frame I have. Got tired of hoping I’d find my can of paint on chalkboard paint and bought a can of chalk board spray paint.
Was on sale at HL at 30% off.
Love how this looks, very pretty in room besides being useful.
Your new friend is very pretty young lady.
Happy weekend

Wow, thanks Heather! What a sweet note to begin my day with. 🙂
awe love it, i just sprayed a black frame that came as a magnet board coral and am going to add chalkboard paint to the magnet part to have a chalkboard and magnet board all in one….fun stuff…love your projects….
Love the magnet chalkboard combo! Brilliant!
So the supplies is a foam board that you spray painted with chalkboard paint. and put in the frame…?
I actually hand painted it with the chalkboard paint. I am sure a spray version would work as well. The thing I love about chalkboard paint, it that is paints on almost anything. Here is a link to the brand I used. http://www.amazon.com/DecoArt-DS90-62-Americana-Chalkboard-4-Ounce/dp/B003ULNC0Q/ref=sr_1_3?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1377815569&sr=1-3&keywords=chalkboard+paint
Looks fab but I’m wondering what foam board is as I’ve not heard of it in the UK?!
Foam board or foam core is something you most likely can find at a craft or art supply store in large sheets that are easy to trim with a craft knife. They come in different thicknesses too.
