Make This Paper Leaf Wreath For Fall

I am starting to decorate my house for the fall and winter seasons. The teals and aqua items are going into storage to be replaced with plums and golds. To begin my Fall update I made a paper leaf garland and wreath out of metallic antique gold, gold leaf, copper, bronze and ruby. All I can say is . . . YUM! Can you hand me that piece of pumpkin pie, please? These beautiful metallic papers were ordered in text weight from paper-papers.com. The combination of these colors are just gorgeous and I will be using them for more Fall and Holiday projects! I printed templates and cut five different leaf patterns from the paper, used my scoring tool to add detail and a center spine which I then folded to add dimension. For the garland I had originally thought I would use my sewing machine to attach the leaves into a strand, but found it easier to simply use a needle with the gold metallic thread. Easy as pumpkin pie! Garland done! For the wreath I wanted to repurpose a grape vine wreath I had saved for a rainy. . . okay, a balmy Fall day. Using this as the base make the wreath making all so simple. I just arranged and glued the leaves onto the vines. The metallic paper really gives it an elegant fall style. It is likely that I will never make a paper garland. I will enjoy looking at it frequently. I found your site by tracing back from some other site for something else which led me to this site: http://nicety.livejournal.com/?skip=15 who did put a link but I used Google Images to find you. I like to find the ORIGINAL source even for pics that I am just going to look at privately.

So beautiful. Thanks so much for all the great leaf templates. Your wreath is so pretty and glad you didn’t overload the wreath with too many leaves, they speak for themselves. I’ll have to order that paper from the source you provided, thanks for that also. The colors of the paper are jewel like, perfect for Fall.
Last year I made lots and lots of paper leaves that I used in many ways. This year since I couldn’t find my Fall decos box I used many of the left over leaves to put on a wreath I had wrapped with burlap. Also made a leaf garland but am going to make this wreath and garland, put others away for another time or give them away.
I was glad I had all the stash I did so I didn’t have to go buy anything. Payday isn’t til 26th.
I’ve been making about 5 different sizes of fabric pumpkins using fall fabric, burlap and some heavy canvas I’ve had for ages. It all came in so handy. Think I made about 25 pumpkins , used some of them to decorate. I’m finding I’m not missing all the older Fall decos I have at all. If I ever find them in the shed I’ll have to see about purging of more of them.
Last Spring early summer (2012) I went thru all the Fall and Christmas boxes gave a lot to the local thrift store since I had so much I’ve collected and drug all over the country with us. We have a small mfg. home so not room to use all of it, even things I still kept. I’m finding I’m enjoying using the new things I’m making just as much as old stuff that’s stored. Think that’s telling me to get rid of more things. Makes life a lot easier not to have to go thru the messes of boxes. I had 11 boxes of Christmas and 9 of Fall. Yup, time to purge which I did last year.
Can hardly wait to make these leaves. They’re so pretty in those colors. I’m very much a Fall person for colors. Happy weekend. Love each new project you give us.

Is the paper you used for the leaves the same as scrapbook paper ?

  For this project I used a text weight metallic paper, but you certainly could use scrapbook paper. These leaves are so simple, any paper would work great.

The colors are simply gorgeous and I love how they shine with a pearl finish when they catch the light! When I got married (9 years ago yesterday!), I used Martha Stewart’s paper leaf napkin rings template and hand-cut 250 napkin rings from metallic chocolate brown, copper and gold papers (from Paper Zone, back in the day, and I bet I still have some!). They were one of my favorite personalized touches at the wedding. Love the addition of plum…very rich and sophisticated…and the plum (taffeta?) fabric behind the bookshelf, too. 🙂
