Pretty Peonies!

For many weddings and events, a lot of the budget can go into your flower centerpieces. Today, I am going to show you a simple arrangement that is gorgeous, has an English garden feel and is a fun DIY project. One of my tricks for these DIY flower centerpieces is making the main focal flowers from crepe paper peonies.

These lush crepe peonies can be made ahead and they are great for guests to admire when they realize your bouquets are based on these pretty handcrafted blooms. As you can see in the wedding photo below, this is a simplified replica of the beautiful arrangements made by my florist friend Kyla for the wedding of our friends Lauren and Nelson.

Bridal Bouquets

Remember the bridal bouquets which also used the crepe peonies? To tie it all together we brought the English garden look to the center of our tables, each arrangement marked with a dog cutout to name each table. They were a hit! For my tutorial, I have used salal (lemon leaf), seeded eucalyptus, and dusty miller for the greens. The flowers are simply green hydrangea and pink roses leaving the focal point for the large crepe peony heads. I had collected different hobnail milk glass vases and containers. As you can see in the tutorial they all varied and here are samples of two versions. For the shallow pedestal bowl, I made a simple grid using white duck tape that I cut into thin strips. You can use waterproof floral tape or any other waterproof tape. This helps hold the arrangement in place while allowing you to design a lush look. Once you have gathered all of your materials, just follow my step-by-step tutorial below and you will have a gorgeous flower centerpiece for your upcoming event. Enjoy! ~ Lia

I absolutely love these centerpieces and will be using them for my wedding in May! What are the dimensions of pieces?

  Thank you Maria! Unfortunately I don’t know the dimensions, this project is several years old and I don’t have it to reference. But I imagine the centerpieces were 10-12″ wide.

hi there i really love your tuturial..I wonder if I can hand craft the whole flower centerpiece including the leaves??? or do I need to buy fake leaves and make flower from crepe paper?also do u hv tutorial how to dye crepe paper? in my country i cant find gradient crepe paper…

  Hi Cindy. For this post I purchased real flowers and mixed them in with crepe paper flowers. For most of my posts I make the leaves as well. Here is the template https://liagriffith.com/diy-crepe-paper-peonies/ I have never tried to dye the crepe paper so tutorial:( yet:-)

These are absolutely gorgeous! We are looking to make these for my sister’s upcoming wedding! I have been making hundreds of the crepe paper peonies using the pattern and and tutorial you have shared and they are absolutely gorgeous!!! Thank you so much for the how to! I love making them.

Any chance you could show us how to make a crepe paper peony that hasn’t quite opened, when they are in their “ball” state? My sister, the bride, has her heard set on including these and I haven’t a clue how to make this!

  Thanks Meghan! I will put that on my list for crepe flowers for sure. I will tell you ahead how I will do it though. Use a small foam ball at the end of a floral wire. Cover with crepe and wrap the first set of petals around the ball.
