Chalkboard Painted DIY Herb Pots
Here is a great project idea that I came up with for a possible Mother’s Day gift, but would also be cute as a birthday gift or housewarming gift. And of course, you can simply make these DIY herb pots as a gift to yourself! Painting regular old terracotta pots with chalkboard paint is a fun and simple activity that will help you get your garden organized and ready for planting season. You all know I am a big fan of the chalkboard look, so when I saw the stack of chalkboard planters at west elm. . . I saw a perfect opportunity for a DIY project. I love that chalkboard paint is not only a great look, but is also so functional! You can easily write whatever plant you are planning to place in that pot, and changing plants just means erasing and re-writing your label. Simple! For the pots, I used the DecoArt Americana chalkboard paint. This paint goes a long way and brushes on smoothly. I used less than a half bottle for my 6 pots and plates. Once the DIY herb pots are dry and the herbs planted in their new, roomier homes, marking their names with chalk was very delightful. Enjoy! ~ Lia

If I weren’t leaving on vacation tonight, I’d be running home to make some of these! Guess I’ll have to wait a couple of weeks. Such a cute idea, especially for herbs. They would even be cute placed around in the garden – I’ve planned several different herbs and flowers that keep away the pests – now they’ll be decorative and useful. Thanks for the idea!
You are so welcome! Still plenty of time to make them this summer. 😉
where do you buy chalk board paint?
They have it at most craft supply stores. You can also find it on Amazon.
I love practical things that are also pretty! I’m curious how well these hold up outside. Does the chalk disappear when it rains?
They were out in the rain on Monday and did not smear at all. It may depend on the intensity of the rain? Either way I am loving the black pots as terracotta is not in my color scheme. 🙂
M’encanten aquestes torretes de pissarra i gran idea lo de posar-hi els noms ,
Una abraçada.
Glad you like them!
