DIY Lunar Paper Lantern
Lunar is Here!
Lunar New Year is coming up and we have been itching to design and make a traditional Chinese paper lantern for the occasion. Our DIY paper lantern is a mini version of the real thing and is very simple to make with our pattern and tutorial. Chinese paper lanterns have a long long history and have become a well-known symbol of Chinese culture worldwide. Traditionally used on streets and in gateways for practical reasons, it has, over the years, become a beautifully embellished accessory or decorative object rather than a mere functional one! Our pretty paper version is made using text weight paper in red, a pretty jade bead and gold embroidery floss. The tassel on the bottom is super simple to make and can be created by following this tutorial here.

Love the idea so I’ve saved to share next February (maybe January)

Hi there…I have a cameo silhouette and am having difficulties cutting this file. My machine cuts the image twice, going over the original cut again. When looking at the file up close there are two cut lines next to one another. Would you have any advice on how to ensure a clean cut with the cameo?
How strange! There is only one cut line on this file. It seems like this is a Silhouette issue. Maybe the Silhouette isn’t recognizing the cut line and is cutting two lines on either side of the designated cut line…I’m not sure. I would try figuring this out with Silhouette’s customer support
