Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! We have been busy making snowmen this week. Well, snowman crafts anyway! We were challenged by our friends at Floracraft® to re-imagine a project from their Christmas ebook. Using their fluffy snowman (pictured at the very end of this post) as inspiration, we created this felted wool foam snowman out of two FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam balls. Isn’t he cute?
Let it Snow!
In addition to the two sizes of foam balls, you will also need white wool roving felt; orange, black and red felt for his accessories; white embroidery floss; black adhesive gems; a roving needle; a length of wire to connect the two balls; a length of paper-wrapped floral stem wire; scissors; and a low-temperature glue gun. Once you have gathered all your materials, download the pattern at the end of this post. Then you can follow my photo tutorial below.
This felted wool foam snowman is a great beginner project for those wanting to dabble with roving felt, as there is little chance of getting it wrong! Likewise, the snowman’s felt top hat is made using a glue gun and the scarf only requires a simple running stitch. So this is the perfect project for any crafting newbies!

Lia Any ideas on making a snow lady?? I would like to make it a couple for Valentines’ Day.
Thanks….PATRICIA
That is a cute idea. You could dress her in a different outfit, maybe adding a few hearts, heart-shaped gloves, adding a heart on the tophat?

Hi, this is a super great idea. I’ve never done felting, but really looking forward to starting. I have a question regarding the sizes for the top hat. Would appreciate that info.
Thanks so much, keep up the great work as it’s very enjoyable to see, and to make.
Linda
Thanks Linda! The top hat pattern is included in the post download 🙂
Hi, I would love to make this snowman, but I’m completely new to felting and I have to order wool for it online so I have no idea how much I need. I found wool that is sold in 25g packages and I don’t know how many packages to buy. Can You tell how much wool did You use?
Good question! For this craft, we put the roving wool over foam balls, so you won’t need too much wool. If you were making the entire body out of wool that would require much more 😉 Using foam balls as the bases for the body is an easy trick so that they are shaped perfectly and also don’t take too much material to make. Any small bag of roving wool should be enough!
[…] been. I thought about making a snowman but I knew I couldn’t top this felt snowman from Lia Griffith. Seriously, the team is full of so many talented crafters that sometimes I […]
