VIDEO: Learn How To Tie The Perfect Bow
Learn How To Tie The Perfect Bow!
I love gift giving and always enjoy the wrapping of the gift as much as the making of it. I like to play with wraps and papers, ribbons and bows but it can be tricky to get it looking ‘just right’. Tying the perfect bow can leave you cross and frustrated – which is no fun!

Become a MemberSo today I’m sharing my updated video on how to tie the perfect bow. It is something my mom taught me years ago and I am forever grateful. There are several different ways to tie a bow, but this method is so simple and works every time. The trick to keeping your bow straight is in how you wrap the center knot around your first loop. If you wrap under the loop, your bow will be crooked. If you wrap over the top of the loop, it will always be straight – simple! The very first video I shot showing this technique was a little speedy and so we have shot a new, less quick video which I am sharing today. I do suggest you watch it through a few times to get the gist: TOP OVER TOP. That is the secret sauce! Let me know what you think and whether these two visuals are helpful in teaching you how to tie my version of the perfect bow. Cheers! ~ Lia

Iβve been doing bows completely backwards my whole life. No wonder they were always lopsided. Following the pics was SO easy – I just need to re-train my brain now. Thanks so much for the clear instructions!
I know it’s a bit tricky to retrain! So glad it’s helpful π
Thank you for this. I have a hard time tying bows. Sometimes I get lucky and it will turn out great. Love your site and ideas. π
It takes some practice! Thanks for being here π
Hi there. Thanks for the useful guide. One note though: unlike your guide for the Tiffany bow, this one doesnβt say how much ribbon you need. I would find that bit helpful.

I wanted to thank you so much for this tutorial! I was stressing over the fact that my the bottom loose ends of my bow were always dangling into weird directions, and I came across your tutorial, and I must say, that your tutorial has truly revolutionized things for me and my company! Many blessings!!
So happy to help!!
This technique is life changing! My gift wrapping just went to pro level overnight!
Megan, your comment made my day! I’m so happy to hear this π
Thanks Lia! I’m 50-something and my bows have been wonky my whole life! Who knew it was so simple to have them look good…actually, perfect?!?! It’s really the same bow we’ve all been tying, but we’ve just been doing things in the wrong order. Your video, even the ‘fast’ one, isn’t complicated at all. Thanks so much for making my hand-crafted baby shower gift look very professional today!
I love your comment, Penny!! It makes me smile that you found a new skill. π

Hi Lia
Thank you for your video. I clicked on “photo tutorial” to assist me while tying the bow and it did not show me the photo tutorial. Please tell me how I can find that…
Thanking in advance for your reply…
Hi Laurie. Oh dear. I think I need to make a photo tutorial. Where did you see that it said there was one.
Very useful ‘how to make a perfect bow’ video. I am a oil painter and recently I started to paint wrapped gifts for my small paintings. I sometimes struggled with making a good looking bow when I was preparing a wrapped gift as my prop. Not any more – because I have watched your tutorial. π Thanks a lot !!!
Thank you for your sweet comment!
Great tutorial for bows! I think everyone that watches it will tie bows professionally!
I hope so, thanks for your sweet comment!
I was just thinking yesterday that I would now have to learn bow making because my paper skills needed to be finished off with gorgeous bows. You read my mind!
Thank you..
Yay!!!
