VIDEO: Make a Long Stemmed Red Rose for Your Valentine
Simple Paper Rose Tutorial
Valentine’s day is just weeks away so I just have to share my paper rose tutorial of the red watercolor paper rose. So lush and gorgeous and red is trending this year on the red carpet. The red watercolor template is ready for you to print with a laser printer onto regular copy paper. The PDF includes a front and back so your rose is a full bloom red. The green leaves are set up the same way, ready to print two sides of the paper. (Note that when you open the download in your browser the color is WAY off, but once you download to your computer and open in Adobe Acrobat, they show the right color).
Do It Yourself
If you are wanting to make a long stemmed rose with your own colored or printed paper, you can download that outline template PDF here. Once you have your paper/template ready, just follow my step-by-step tutorial below. You can also follow my paper rose video and use the wire in place of the skewer for your long stem. You can make just one to surprise your sweetie or a full dozen bouquet. Once you see how easy these are to make you may not want to stop.

I made 18 of this rose this past weekend. They will be used for a memorial service. I still have 12 to go. They have turned out beautiful. Thank you so much for the template and instructions. I wish I could upload a picture of one of them.
Oh how lovely, I’m so glad you can add such a personal touch to the memorial. You can always send us photos of your projects to hello@liagriffith.com or upload to our Facebook page 🙂
I cannot find the pink what exactly is the name? By the way your creation are outstanding 🙂
Thank you! What pink are you referring to?
would this work on book paper? like old books that your gonna throw out but you dont want to
Yeah it should as long as the paper isn’t TOO thin 🙂
Trong thời gian ngắn sử dụng, chỉ 1 – 2 ngày,
chất này sẽ làm cho da trắng lên một cách trông thấy, các
loại mụn đều sẽ được làm sạch.
Hi Lia! I’m having a hard time taping the leaf on the wire. And in the end when I finally have it on there it tears a bit on the side. Is there a better way to tape the leaf on? By the way love love love your work! Thank you for sharing!
Hi! It could be the floral tape you’re using– I’ve gone through several brands and there are some I just can’t use because they’re too sticky and tear easily. You can try adding a dab of hot glue on the leaf to secure it to the wire, then wrap the tape around.
What Guage of floral wire do you use for these? I’m thinking for a bouquet?
18 gauge works great!
beautiful you rose.
These are beautiful and your website is really inspiring me! I have seen on a few of your tutorials that you have said about using a laser printer for the flower templates. Can I just use an inkjet printer, will it matter very much? Thank you!
I’m so glad we’re inspiring you! We use both laser and inkjet printers here. I prefer the look & feel of laser prints (less ink, too!) but using an inkjet is just fine 🙂
Want to start by saying your work looks amazing, hopefully I can replicate.
I’m about to buy all the materials and stuff but I’m a little confused. Do I buy white paper and print the red colour or should I just buy different colour paper to begin with? Did a little looking and see that you use a brand called “Stardream” and get their metallic paper. So that’s what I’m going to get, just wondering if I should get white or different colours. Is there is a specific red tone or red paper you recommend?
Any advice is much appreciated, thank you!
For this watercolor wash I would just print it onto white text weight paper (make sure it is text weight, and not copy paper or cardstock!). I generally like to buy my metallic paper from Paper-Papers brand online, but because this has a watercolor wash, a white paper will work well 🙂
Love the work! Would you happen to have a red watercolor rose template of just the outline (no color) only?If not, no worries, I ordered metallic paper so I’m just looking to cut the shapes, much appreciated!
Thank you!! You can find the rose template outline in this post: https://liagriffith.com/diy-paper-rose-made-with-a-metallic-paper-long-stemmed-rose-tutorial/ Best of luck!
Hi! I so love your work, but have yet been able to download it and cut your files – apple blossoms, etc. I have literally spent hours trying to figure out what I have done wrong. Not sure that you have the answer but I am sure hoping so! Thanks so much.
You may want to see if your browser is set to block downloads. This is common.
These are beautiful. I made the pink watercolor rose and it came out perfect. I used the Cricut Explore to cut the pedals. Will you be adding the red version to the Design Space? Also, I would like to cut in different colors, but it only wants to print then cut. Do you know a secret way to skip the print and just cut?
I think you can just deselect the print, but I may be wrong. I will go check it out.
I think within layers you can change the option from print to cut in the same way that you can change cut to score etc. This is for the Cricut.
Wow,so beautiful..you help me to find new idea!!
Great to hear!
hmm. I wonder what paper you used ? can i ask me the question?
I am in love with text weight paper. I get all of mine from http://www.paper-papers.com/designers/lia.html
Do u still sell the kit for the rose tutorial?
Not any more. I am looking to get them manufactured into kits though. Stay tuned. 😉
Thank you, looking forward to making 10 coffee mug centerpieces… lovely
That will be so pretty!
Can these roses be made with crepe paper?
There are better patterns for crepe paper. This one is specifically for printer paper.
Wow! Love your work. May I ask what kind of paper you use so that I may reproduce a similar effect?
This was printed with a laser printer using my PDF with the watercolor texture. The laser gives a bit of a sheen with this much ink coverage.
Beautiful, beautiful….. i love it
Kises
Thanks Anna!!
