Mother’s Day Felt Flower
I am a self confessed anglophile. I often say I was born on the wrong continent and constantly find myself drawn to all things British. So I was pleased to hear that Mother’s Day in the UK is almost upon us – next Sunday in fact. Our US equivalent is not until May so we thought we’d share a few gorgeous DIY Mother’s Day projects earlier than usual – especially for all of our friends across the pond.

Fabulous Felt Flower Brooch
It helps that our brand new writer and public relations gal is from England and has brought a touch of the Great British Isles to the Lia Griffith studio. We’re often “tickled pink” by her colloquial phrases and she has taken great pride in showing us how to brew a proper cup of hot British tea – yum!
All Things English
Our second DIY Mother’s Day craft project is inspired by our English teammate Emily (who is our lovely model in these photos) and all that we love about the green and pleasant land she calls home. It’s inspired by the great English countryside and afternoon tea, by cricket on the lawn and Mum’s fresh scones. It’s been a while since we designed something in felt and we know how much these no sew projects are loved, so we put together this sweet little flower brooch that you can make at home in time for the big day. Included in the pattern for this project is a printable note card that compliments the colors in the brooch perfectly and throws in a pop of yellow to hint at the Spring months ahead. You can download and print these little cards using the button at the end of the post.
All you’ll need to make this DIY Mother’s Day felt flower brooch are a few pieces of wool felt, a hot glue gun and a brooch pin for the back. Use the flower template below to cut your petals and leaves. You’ll find instructions below on how to put the brooch together but feel free to stitch the petals in place if, like my darling sister, you believe that felt and glue just don’t mix! Your ideas look lovely! I really want to try, but the felt pack I bought at the craft store turned out to only have garish colors that weren’t too fun to work with. Do you have any recommendations of where to get prettier colors like the ones you have? I checked a second store but they only carried the same ones I bought originally.

When I meet somebody that doesn’t know about your incredible website I can hardly wait to tell the person about all the incredible projects you so generously share with us all.
I can hardly wait to print out patterns for this so I can get a head start making some for friends and family. With all these wonderful projects I’ll be too busy making won’t have time for much else.

lovely, I wished i had seen this before my mom here birthday.
But okay she had gotten from my a special covered up notebook that i made my self.
And did with the paper some special craftings so it looks perfect.
My mom celebrathed her 89th birthday.
We both couldn’t believed her age.
I’m still glad that i have such a mom to talk with and to listen ad;-D

Oh how pretty Lia! Felt brooches always remind me of my Mum’s era, the 40s, as there are lots of them in old needlework magazines I have from the period. Perhaps they were so popular as growing real flowers during the war years was frowned upon – Dig for Victory and all that.
And yes, you are right, Mothering Sunday does always seem to sneak up on us over here just as Spring is starting to spring! Thanks so much for this gorgeous project. Like your sister I’ll be stitching mine. ;o)
