DIY Felt Christmas Stockings
Yesterday our studio was buzzing with last-minute Christmas crafting. We made two adorable DIY felt Christmas stockings (along with two elegant white stockings coming next) in our ongoing Arctic theme that we have used for window clings, Santa letters, gift wrap, gift tags, and gift toppers. These DIY felt stockings are quite simple to make and are so nice to the touch as we used the luscious wool blend felt from our shop. The pretty blue-green socks are from the easy-to-sew material and you can make one sock base from two of the 12×18 pieces of felt. For the stocking and the animal template, you can download them by using the button at the end of the post. Below you will find my step-by-step tutorial on how we assembled these adorable stockings.

Leave a CommentHi. This is my first time on the sight. I have some questions. Am I printing on 8 1/2 x 11? Next, do I need the felt needles? Do I need certain scissors? Where should i go to type my questions? Thank you, cindy
Hi Cindy and welcome! This is an older project so we took a bit of time to add all of the tools and materials list as well as an SVG file if you do have a personal cutting machine. Hope this helps!
donyou cut TWO pieces if felt 12 x 18 for cuff? appears from directions that two pieces are sewn together on long edge, but cutting direction only indicates one 12×18 piece????
Hi Cheryl! It is one piece that is sewn together into two layers. It is folded to perhaps look like two pieces.
I have a question about the cuff. I see a comment above that says cut a 13 x 18 piece but I don’t find that in the instructions anywhere. Is that the right size to cut?
Hi Penny,
On the last page of the template there is a note saying to cut a piece of 12″x18″ felt for the cuff. 🙂
Thank you!
Can the small pieces be fused to the stocking with fusible interfacing?
Yes!
I don’t understand the cuff. You have a pattern and yet you say to cut a 13 x 18 piece.
The piece on the last page is still part of the stocking (the pattern was split up into 3 pages). I see how the note about the cuff can be misleading though! Not the best placement, sorry about that.
Hello! Is the stocking entirely hand sewn? Or is a sewing machine required?
Hi Erin! I used a sewing machine, but did hear from a reader once that she used fabric glue and it worked just fine. I wouldn’t expect the stocking to hold up as well but it’s certainly an option for non-sewers!
I just want to thank you for all of the wonderful crafts you make and then share them with others. I love your site and again just want to thank you. God Bless.
Thank you Ellen, that warms my heart!!! Hugs
