Inspired by baby emperor penguins, this beginner-to-intermediate felt project is a great introduction to stuffie making and simple 3D construction. Furthermore, as a sewing project, these Felt Baby Penguins offer just enough of a challenge to build confidence without feeling overwhelming. Also, one sweet detail we’ve added is the tiny magnets stitched into their arms that allow your penguins to hold hands. When displayed together, they are perfect penguin pals ready to play and warm your heart this winter. So, when you're ready to get started, gather your tools and materials — and we'll meet you in the tutorial!
In addition to their undeniable cuteness, emperor penguins are remarkably resilient. Native to Antarctica, they are the largest penguin species and uniquely adapted to survive one of the harshest environments on Earth. During the darkest winter months, males balance their eggs on their feet and keep them warm beneath a protective fold of skin, enduring fierce winds, ice, and freezing temperatures. After the chicks hatch, they gather in tight groups called “crèches” to conserve heat — a beautiful reminder about the importance of community and very worthy inspiration during this season of quiet reflection.
When your Felt Baby Penguins are all finished and holding hands, we’d love to see them waddling into the spotlight. Please share your project on social media using #MadeWithLia, and be sure to upload photos to our crafters’ community so we can all celebrate your creativity.

Back to the TopI noticed in the instructions that you’re using the whip stitch to assemble the penguin, not the blanket stitch. However, on instruction 9, it says to continue to blanket stitch? Typo? Or should it be blanket stitch to assemble?
You are right! Krista just updated it. 🙂
Hi Lia,
The downloadable files are not working for this adorable baby penguin. Please could you check it out?
Thank you,
Viki
Hi Viki! Check your computer’s downloads folder for the zipped file. You can double-click to unzip, then move the folder anywhere on your computer. Let me know if this does not work for you.
