This Flower Floats Our Boat
For our July Member Make, we are going to craft our first-ever crepe paper water lily! It seemed fitting since water lilies are July's birth flower (along with larkspur). Plus it's always fun to make a new flower!
These craft challenges are something we do every month and they're one of the benefits of being a member. So if you want to join us, make sure to sign up for your own crafting membership. We offer two options, but the annual membership is our best value!

Although we have made a few varieties of lilies before, this is our first water lily. We are super excited to share a new flower design with you today and show you how to make your own crepe paper water lily. Of course, we will also show you how to make the lily pad to go with your flower.
In our materials list below, you will see that we chose three different shades of extra-fine crepe paper for the petals. In addition to crepe paper, we also used text weight paper to give the center of the flower some more structure. And finally, we used double-sided crepe paper for the lily pad. You can make your crepe paper water lily using the same materials, or you can experiment with different colors and different types of paper.
We can't wait to see your versions and how you style your flowers! We made a few of them and styled them with some candles since water lilies are typically used to create a sense of tranquility and relaxation. Another fun idea is to use your crepe paper water lily as a pretty table setting for a bridal shower, baby shower, or wedding.

Leave a CommentI just made this lily and it’s gorgeous. I’d love to see you make a lotus flower. Similar, but different.
Thank you for all you do. We appreciate you all so much.
We will put that on our list, for sure!
wauw, gonna lookks great next to mine Bhooddha 🙂
I am cutting out the water lily using the SVG file and it is cutting much smaller then the PDF temple. is there a different SVG file to cut the right size?
Hi Donna!
The SVG file provided is the correct size. We have been having some issues with Design space resizing SVG files recently, we would suggest contacting cricut customer service to see if they can help. In the mean time if you select the entire art board and change the width to 18.36 inches the hight will scale up accordingly and the template will be the correct size for you to cut!
Thank you Will do that
i dont have a flower punch to make the yellow part of the lotus, is it still possible to free cut these?
Hi Tina,
We did not use a flower punch for the lotus center, you can either use a personal cutting machine or use small detail scissors and cut it by hand.
Hi,
I just love all of your crepe paper projects.
I’m from India and finding your crepe paper is very difficult here.
Any idea where to find those?
Hi Anirudh
We are working on international shipping for our shop. In the meantime, Amazon UK has a lot of our products and now offers global shipping. Look for the logo “Global Store” on the product: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Lia+Griffith&ref=nb_sb_noss
I am canadian. Where can I buy your crepe paper?
Check out Amazon CA!
I plan to do the member make this weekend. I wonder if gluing craft foam to the bottom of the lily pad would be enough to make it buoyant and protected to actually float on water… maybe worth a try!
Ooh! I love they way you’re thinking. The foam will likely absorb the water (and eventually make its way to the crepe paper, and ruin it), but it could be worth testing!
sooo excited to start all your crepe paper projects!!!
Yay! 🙂
