Cardstock Maidenhair Fern
As much as we love paper flowers here at Lia Griffith, we don’t mind highlighting the supporting cast from time to time. I happen to love ferns and moss, and to be honest, they’re among some of my favorite plants to design. So, I’m always happy to create something that celebrates their quiet diversity. Not every centerpiece needs a colorful bloom, and this Cardstock Maidenhair Fern is a perfect example of a plant that can shine on its own.
This maidenhair fern is a beginner-friendly craft that still manages to pack a punch style-wise. Though it’s appropriate for all skill levels, there are quite a few pieces to cut out for this project, so we recommend a cutting machine to speed things along. Once you’ve gathered your materials, scroll down to the tutorial below.

Fern Fun!
The look of fresh greenery can’t be outmatched, but sometimes the upkeep can be a little much. Imagine a beautiful potted plant to add some nature to your home or office without the added mess of dirt and water — perfection! With its long, lush stems, this maidenhair fern would look so chic on your fireplace mantel or as a table centerpiece. Simply add some colored stokes to each leaf using the Karin brush markers to give the leaves some dimension.
We’d love to see your lovely fern once you’re all finished, so remember to upload your pics to our crafters’ community. Also, you can use the hashtag #MadeWithLia when posting your creations on Instagram.

This is beautiful! I love that you do plants and flowers in a variety of papers so I can make lovely things with all the papers I buy (I have a paper purchasing habit!). Thank you.
I love to hear this!! This is one of my favorite paper plants in our stash! 😉
It is still not clear to me how many individual pieces are attached to each thick stem?? In the picture above how many stems are grouped together to make your arrangement? Thanks
Hi Connie! For this project we have provided you with 3 shapes, you can cut out as many as you wish to make your fern more bushy or not. All the stems you make will be attached to one thick stem wire. For the fern pictured we cut out about 15 stems that were then added to the one thick stem wire! I hope this helps 🙂
It does. Thanks!
After making all the stems do you attach all 12 stems to one thick stem wire or only 3 to a thick stem wire. Thanks.
Attach them together to make one stem. It makes it easy to place inside of a container.
Oh my gosh I just finished these. They are gorgeous. Love all the cardstock projects. Kudos to you and your team. Thanks.
So good to hear!! More cardstock projects coming your way!!
I am making this beautiful plant but need more of the Spanish Moss cardstock. Are you considering selling the individual colors as single sheets in you color cardstock packs? Thanks.
We would love to be able to sell individual colors at some point. Possibly the popular colors like this.
This card stock fern looks great. What other paper project can I pair it with? In a floral arrangement? Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you.
I love it as a plant on my shelf, just solo. But, you can use it as a textured greenery for any arrangement, with any flowers!
I am unable to bring the maidenhair fern into Cricut Space.
Hi Beverly, be sure to unzip the file before bringing it into design space. You can unzip it by double clicking, a folder should then show up with the SVG and PDF files in it.
