A Luna Event

Nicknamed the American Moon Moth, Lunas are one of North America’s insect superstars! These nocturnal beauties are well-known for their delicacy and impressive wingspan. Because of their powerful attraction to light, they’re seen as a symbol of rebirth and renewal.

Though they’re most often seen with light green and white wings, we wanted to design our lunas with the colors of the night sky. Deep purple, navy, and translucent white bring to mind a beautiful nighttime tapestry — perfect for a good-luck visit from the elusive Luna moth.

To make these, simply cut your pieces according to the template. Glue your vellum paper onto the backside of the wings, then fold the body piece in half on each side. Next, glue the halves together, line up the wings, and add a clip to hold it tight. Set your moth aside to dry, and voila! You’re all done. Don’t forget to share your creation in our crafters’ community or on Instagram with the hashtag #MadeWithLia.
