Beginner Crepe Dogwood Branch Video Workshop
Dog-gone beautiful
There’s something so thrilling about the first signs of spring, when the world exhales a breath it’s held all winter. The moment when bare branches suddenly bloom to herald the coming season is where we’ve drawn our inspiration for this next project, the Crepe Paper Dogwood Branch. Light and beautifully sculpted, this project celebrates the beauty of early blooms and the transformative energy they bring.

This Crepe Paper Dogwood Branch is one of our earliest projects, and it was due for a refresh. We’ve updated this project with modern techniques and a clearer, more approachable process, making it suitable for adventurous beginners and seasoned paper florists alike. And as a bonus, you can tune in to our Crafternoon to come together and share in the excitement of pre-spring creativity.
Dogwood trees are known for their early blooms, often before their leaves appear. These gorgeous overachievers are a powerful symbol of hope, renewal, and forward motion. Additionally, dogwoods mark the transition from winter’s dark silence into the brighter, more energetic months ahead. Recreating these blooms in crepe paper allows you to enjoy their timeless charm year-round.
To create your Crepe Paper Dogwood Branch, you’ll work with crepe paper, floral wire, and simple shaping techniques to form softly cupped petals and realistic centers. A single branch inside a vase can make an elegant statement, and several grouped together can create an effortless arrangement perfect for mantles and shelves. These branches also pair beautifully with other early-season florals, giving you a foundation piece you can build on as spring unfolds.
When your Crepe Paper Dogwood Branch is finished, be sure to share it with us on social media using #MadeWithLia. We can’t wait to see how you bring this early spring treasure to life.
And catch up on past Crafternoons here to watch live recordings and try beginner-friendly crafts anytime.

Leave a CommentHi Lia,
I noticed you do not have the 18g wire listed on the materials list.
Can you please add it?
Thanks.
Oh dear! Fixed along with the template. 🙂
Hi, I began making your flowers a little over a year ago. I’ve never seen these videos where you are live. Is there some way to view previous ones that I’ve missed?
Robin
Hello Robin! Yes, we have a lot of videos, including the Member Make videos where Meagan and I are live. You can check out our video library here: https://liagriffith.com/videos/
Hi Lia,
My computer is not downloading today. is it possible to email me the downloads?
Thanks,
Ginny from South Carolina
Can you try it again today?
Hi Lia,
I wanted to upgrade to annual membership however, it only let me upgrade to monthly membership. I’ve been charged 14.99 but, I’m still on trial until 3/3/26. I want to access annual membership content.
Thank you,
Brenda
Hi Brenda! We can help you with that. Can you email hello@liagriffith.com, and Emily can change that for you.
Hi Lia, I was reviewing the printed tutorial getting ready to try this branch. It never talks about applying the leaves to the branches. I’m assuming they get pinched on with white glue after the bare stems are added. Maybe I’ll just wait until Friday’s Crafternoon to finish.
You are right!! And I had two photos swapped. I just updated the tutorial. See you Friday. 🙂
Lia, I don’t see Stem wire in the Materials list, and bind wire in Natural appears in the Dogwood photo. Will we need both, and if so, will it be 18 gauge? Thanks.
Hi Linda! We are only using the 18-gauge for this flower. Together, the 5 flowers make a thicker branch. The photo has a jute twine as a prop, so no, we do not need bind wire either. See you next week!
So Beautiful!!
What kind of paper are these dogwood flowers made of. Have you used the double sided crepe paper to make these dogwood flowers?
Thank you Brenda! I used metallic text weight paper for these flowers. Double-sided crepe would be BEAUTIFUL– you could use this pattern 🙂 https://liagriffith.com/diy-dogwood-branches-from-italian-crepe-paper/
Thanks, Lia. I mistook the jute twine for bind wire. Looking forward to Friday!
LISA ITS ME AGAIN I KEEP GETTING ERROR 429 TO MANY REQUESTS I’AM DOING TO MUCH RIGHT? I’AM SORRY IF THAT IS WHAT I’AM DOING MY HUSBAND SAID YES TO MUCH INK AND PAPER TO I’AM MAKING AND BOOK ON FLOWERS FOR ME. BLESS YOU I’LL STOP JUDY
Oh no, sorry about the trouble. We are unable to replicate the issue.
Lia, I adore your lovely ideas. I’m wondering if regular crepe paper rolls (used for streamers) can be used for some of your smaller paper flower projects? I can’t find sheets of the paper in stores & can’t afford the large sheets & I’m not comfortable ordering online. Thank – you in advance. Your biggest fan… Dee
Hi Dee, I haven’t tried using the paper rolls used for streamers but give it a go. They are a little thinner so just be delicate. Let me know if it works.
Actually, I was wondering about using it unwrapped to make the leaves and petals. Do you think that would work? I inherited a boatload of it, lol!
I don’t know, I have never tried it but give it a go and let me know! Have fun!!
Can you use paper twist for this project?
Hi Leslie. Sure, I would suggest twisting the paper twist around a wire (gluing is securely at each end) so that it is a bit more bendable than just the paper twist.
thanks, I love all¡¡ XOXO since Cancun city
Hugs!
Such beautiful flowers! I love all the crepe paper flowers you do, such a shame that you cannot get this quality and weight of crepe paper here in the UK, I just have to admire your work from afar. Look forward to some more tissue paper flowers, as these I can do!
I will bet that someone in UK sells the Italian crepe paper. The maker is Cartotecnica Rossi. Do a little search on the internet or reach out to them and see who they sell to in UK.
Beautiful.. in Dutch ‘leuk’ or ‘prachtig’!
Thanks Liesbeth!
Tan precioses com sempre queda tot el que surt de les teves mans!!!
Kisses
Thanks Anna!!
