Decorating for a Modern Holiday
Though my house is designed in a craftsman comfort style, I am starting to mix in a modern and mid-century twist. My house was built in 1920, the height of the craftsman movement, where the overly ornate was discarded for a simple and solid style. I have always loved the Craftsman or also called Mission design and by adding my soft cozy furniture into the mix, I have created what I call my somewhat eclectic “craftsman comfort” home. However, the sleek, clean, well designed style of modern and mid-century is catching my eye and being one who loves a challenge, I am up for that added twist.
My holiday decorations gave me a perfect opportunity to add modern touches to my seasonal decor. My color palette for this year’s Christmas is gold (a lot of gold), grey and warm, rustic wood tones. For me, a modern style needs that natural touch to keep it feeling cozy. With the mix of soft faux fur, simple lines on the furniture pieces and the rustic glam of the bottle brush and glitter twig trees, this is exactly the look I was shooting for. Of course we did add a little bit of DIY modern with the large paper star burst that hangs on the wall. We will be sharing the tutorial for this wall art piece in an upcoming post.
