Dress up your little ones with our DIY baby bibs and hats. Inspired by Scandinavian children’s wear, we love how simple yet stylish this ensemble is. Fabric.com offers so many lovely fabrics to choose from… We used French Terry Knit Stripe, Riley Blake Knit, and Baby Zoology Sea by Michael Miller, but feel free to choose your own fabrics to suit your child’s unique personality! We used White Sweatshirt Fleece for our filler. Download our SVG or PDF templates and follow our easy step-by-step tutorial for fashionable baby attire in no time.
Tools & Materials
- Fabric Scissors
- Serger Machine
- Sewing Machine
For Bibs:
- 1/4 Yard Each of 2 Coordinating Fabrics (we used both knit and woven)
- 1/4 Yard of White Cotton Fleece
- Baby Snap Kit
- Matching Thread
- Printed Pattern
For Hats:
- 1/4 Yard of Knit Fabric
- Matching Thread
- Printed Pattern
Steps
- Trim the pattern pieces and tape together the two pieces of the hat.
- Cut all of the fabric pieces according to the pattern instructions. You will need two contrasting pieces for the front and back of your bib, as well as an optional fleece filler.
- Stack your three bib pieces and pin them into place. Your prints will be facing out with the fleece in between the prints.
- Using a serger and matching thread, sew around all edges of your bib. Press flat.
- Attach plastic baby snaps to the ends of your bib as per the instructions on the snap kit.
- For hats, place the front and back together with the print side facing one another.
- Serge around the sides and the top of your hat.
- Open the hat at the base and serge one layer of the edge.
- Fold the edge 1.5 inches, press and sew a straight stitch around the hat to hem.
- Turn your hat right side out, press and tie points to create cute knot(s).
