DIY Birch Wood Animals
One of our favorite new materials to cut on our Cricut Explore is BARC birch wood paper. It cuts like a dream and gives a rustic, natural look without a lot of fuss. For this wood animal set we first spray glued two pieces of the BARC paper together back to back so that the wood is showcased on both sides of your little animals. If you are cutting this on a Cricut, make sure your setting is on “poster board” and test the cut before removing it from the machine. If you keep your mat under the rollers you can easily send it through for another cut by pressing the “go” button. Once cut, they are easy to assemble for your woodland holiday display. We have included both the SVG cut file for those of you who have a cutting machine as well as the PDF template for you who want to cut these cuties by hand. Which ever you do, make sure to share with us your final creations by tagging us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. See you there! Enjoy! ~ Lia

Thanks for the cuties
You are so welcome!
Adorable! I had some balsa wood out for a project this weekend, I may to try these with some of that.
Awesome!! It’s such a simple way to decorate for the holidays, and the little animals are just so cute 😉
Hello Lia!
Thank you and your team for sharing this! I am excited to make it as I just received my order for the balsa wood today. Quick question: do I need to use my Cricut Deep Cut Blade? Or if not, what setting should I use on my Cricut Explore Air? Thank you!
You should be able to use your regular blade for this project. I suggest using the Poster Board setting because then it will cut the wood multiple times before finishing. Happy Crafting!! 🙂
These are adorable. Just a note: the lines in the trees do not allow them to be put together. I think one has to have a line from the top down.
Thank you so much for catching that Becky!! Totally our mistake. We just updated it and it should work smoothly now 🙂 Happy Holidays to you!
wonderful. I really love it. I will try with colored cardboard since I have silhouette and this one doesn’t cut birch wood paper.
thank you!
Good idea! I think heavier cardstock might work too..Happy crafting!!
Oh my gosh Lia/team I am so excited to make these. Think I might just try animals/trees on kraft paper which is heavier than cardstock. I can paint on paper what color I need it to be for each particular critter/tree. I love this.
Am having to rethink what I can make as my hands/(shoulder)/eye sight are just not letting me make some items I dearly wanted to make. Just don’t have ability any longer to make small fiddly things. Hard to admit but life is what it is.
Will have to learn to make items not too detailed to put together, I get so frustrated and don’t need to do that to myself any longer. This will give me impetus to figure out other ways/supplies to make projects like this one with animals and trees. I can cut things out but just not able to put together. Have to let it go hard or not. My crafting isn’t over, just changed and rerouted I guess I could say.
I am constantly inspired by what you offer us and will always love your blog. Thanks for sharing so much creativity with us. Happy weekend
Kraft paper is a great idea! I like what you said- your crafting has just changed and rerouted 🙂 Exploring different options is always a good idea! As always, thank you so much for your beautiful words. Take it easy and stay warm this season Jane!!
