We love, love, love making our DIY jewelry at Lia Griffith HQ. Today we are sharing our tassel necklace using leather laces in a variety of tasty summer to fall tones. Tassels are hot right now and can be used for anything from fancy bunting banners to key chains. They are super-simple to make and give off that chic boho vibe that some of us are craving this summer.
There is a full tutorial below showing you what tools we used and materials you will want to gather to make these pieces. We love that we can just knot the double tassel necklace at the front for a laid back casual look and even layer it with a second single tassel necklace. Browse your craft store or jewelry supply for various sizes of end caps, chains and findings and have fun with this design. Share your tassel jewelry with us in the comments section below or over on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – we love to see what you busy bees are up to. Enjoy! ~ Lia

What’s the best way to straighten leather after it’s been folded?
Thank you!
Hmm I’m actually not sure– the leather cording I’ve used is really flexible and soft and doesn’t need straightening.
Omg. I have to make it. It so beautiful
I made my first necklace from your template today! After 2 trips to Joanne’s fabrics and some some trial and error, I figured out what caps worked best and how long the leather cords should be. Can’t wait to make more! I love the look AND the fact that I can say I made it!!
Yay! Please share a picture with us at hello@liagriffith.com
Thank you for posting this! I was looking for a necklace to make for all the ladies that are planning a women’s conference for our church and these are perfect.
How sweet of you, I am sure the ladies will love them.
Super cute! Where can we source the parts and pieces?
We found ours at our local Bead & Jewelry supply store. Just looking on-line a found this site that seem to have a good selection, please note that we have not purchased anything from them but wanted to give you an idea. http://www.firemountaingems.com

Chains: http://www.firemountaingems.com/shop/chain
Can you specify what length of leather you used for the tassel, what type of chain and what size o ring you used?
The tassels can be any length, we made ours about 4″ but they can be anywhere from 3-6″. The chain doesn’t really have a name, it is round (I don’t know how else to describe it) honestly you can use any type of chain. The jump rings were 6-8mm. The great thing about jewelry making is that none of it really matter, you can do what every your eye fancies.
Love, love, love them.
