Tools

Materials

Steps

  1. Gather the tools and materials.
  2. Fold tissue in thirds and cut on the fold (resulting strips are a tad over 6 1/5” wide).
  3. Stack 5 sheets of one color on top of 5 sheets over another.
  4. Fan the fold about an inch in width.
  5. Cut notches in center on each side of the folds, being careful to leave more than 1/4” in the center between the notches.
  6. Tie twine snuggly in the notches.
  7. Use pinking shears to cut outside edges in a slight curve. A fold or two at a time and one side at a time.
  8. Begin gently pulling tissue layers apart and out, starting with the outermost layers. It works best to pull both sides at once, going all the way around the pom.
  9. Repeat the gentle separate and pulling layers until finished.
  10. Kerfluffle! Use your fingers to move the tissue around to create an even pom. If needed use pinking shears to help here and there.
