easy diy wood wallWe loved our first DIY wood wall so much, we wanted to create another one in our new photo studio. We came across the product Stikwood at our local West Elm a few years back. After giving it a try in our previous photo studio, we fell in love! The panels have an adhesive backing that makes it super simple for anyone to put a stylish and affordable spin on any ordinary wall. With just a few people over the course of an afternoon, we took our studio space from ordinary to extraordinary. In recreating this wall in our current studio space, we’re still as pleased as ever.

Picking Your Panels

We tend to favor a Scandinavian feel in most of our decorating schemes. As in our older studio space, the white wood fireplace is one of our favorite focal pieces. To compliment this piece, we went with the Hamptons panels in a soft chalky white. Stikwood offers lots of different finishes, so choose one that works well with your own unique taste! Start by deciding which wall in your home you’d like to accent. You can create a pretty backsplash for your kitchen or even a statement wall for your living room. The Stikwood material is such a great way to add texture and style to any type of space.

Applying Your Panels

Once you pick out your panels, decide how you want to arrange them. You will want to use a variety of Stikwood sizes (panels come between one and four feet long). Generally speaking, you should make sure not to line up the panels vertically. Horizontal panels evoke a more natural feel. Otherwise, place the panels randomly! If you end up with panels that are too long for certain areas, you can always cut them down to customize the size – they are super lightweight, so they are easy to work with. Applying them to your wall is incredibly simple. Just peel away the adhesive strips and stick the panels to your wall. If you need to rearrange or straighten a panel, we didn’t have any trouble gently removing the wood.

… and Voilà!

After applying the panels, the final result was a gorgeous new backdrop to use for our daily photoshoots. Revisit our previous adventures with Stikwood in the video below. This project was such an easy and affordable way for us to transform our studio, and we’ll continue to love the ways in which it will inspire us further.
