Although this Felt Corn on the Cob is an intermediate project, the techniques themselves are very approachable. For this type of project, the challenge comes from repetition — not complexity — as you'll hand-stitch each row of kernels onto the cob, one strip at a time. However, it’s the finishing details that really bring this project to life. Soft embroidery floss creates the corn silk, while layered felt husks wrap naturally around the kernels for an authentic look.
You’ll notice in our tutorial that we used a combination of sewing and glue for quicker assembly, though you can certainly stitch every piece if you prefer. For the strongest finish, we recommend a quality wool-blend felt, embroidery floss, and some sturdy embroidery needles. Also, if you're looking for more guidance on basic embroidery, don't forget to check out our handy beginner's guide.
Corn has nourished families throughout the Americas for thousands of years, making it one of the world's oldest and most celebrated food crops. Today, it continues to symbolize abundance, generosity, and the rewards of a fruitful harvest. We love carrying that spirit into imaginative play by pairing this Felt Corn on the Cob with our growing collection of felt vegetables and herbs. Together, they create endless opportunities for imaginative play while encouraging little gardeners and chefs to explore fresh foods through creativity.
So, whether you're stocking up your child’s play kitchen or adding another vegetable to your felt garden, this little ear of corn is sure to become a family favorite. When your Felt Corn on the Cob is harvest-ready, don’t forget to share it with our crafters' community and on social using #MadeWithLia.
