When my daughter was young, I used to love playing with her hair and giving her cute styles and braids. Then she grew up and ended up becoming a professional hair stylist! Now she gets to give me cute hair styles! Oh how time flies. I know that if I would have come across this DIY hair clip project 15 years ago, I would have loved making this for her. Our designer Krista, queen of cute, came up with this adorable felt frog, and I knew we had to make it into the perfect hair accessory for any creative kid!
Tools
- Cricut Maker or Silhouette Cameo 4 (optional)
- Detail Scissors
- Embroidery Needles
- Clover Applique Sewing Pins
- Stuffing Tool or Chopstick
- Needle Threader (optional)
- Bobby Pins with Round Plates
Materials
- Lia Griffith’s Wool Blend Felt — Turquoise, Black, White and Blush
- Embroidery Floss — DMC Black and Snow White (B5200)
- Polyester Fiber Fill — Lia Griffith Stuffie Puff
- Tacky Glue
Start by choosing your felt colors. We used a turquoise for the frog face, a blush pink for the cheeks, and a simple white and black felt for the eyes. Print the PDF template below, and cut out each shape as a guide for cutting your felt. Then, follow the step-by-step photo tutorial to show you how to sew each felt piece together. Add a little embroidery floss smile and your frog character has come to life! Now, use some of your poly-fill to stuff the frog a bit. Use hot glue to attach the frog to your bobby pin and your DIY hair clip is complete! This of course would also work using a barrette. It’s all up to you!
Not only is this a super cute piece of hair flair for your little girl, but making this felt frog can also be a fun afternoon craft activity!
