Because our Felt Sunflower Buddy is an intermediate project, some experience with 3D felt construction will be helpful. Before you frame her sweet face with individually stitched petals, you’ll first build Sunny’s dimensional head and body. Then, using simple embroidery, you’ll add some of our favorite details, like her cute little sunflower pocket and soft leafy arms. Finally, a touch of peach art marker gives her those perfectly rosy cheeks.

And while, yes, there are quite a few small pieces to assemble, don’t worry. A little tacky glue can make that process a whole lot easier. As you work, use just enough to hold your felt pieces in position  before stitching them permanently into place. This is especially helpful around the petals, where careful placement creates that iconic sunflower shape around Sunny's face.

Although sunflowers are famous for their sunny yellow color, real varieties range from pale and buttery, deep gold, orange, and even rich burgundy. So, while we dressed our Felt Sunflower Buddy in classic yellow and green, there's plenty of room to make her all your own. Try a warmer autumn palette, change the color of her dress, or give her cheeks and embroidered details your unique personal touch.

Once you've finished stitching, share your Felt Sunflower Buddy with us in our crafters' community or on social using #MadeWithLia. And if you’re already thinking about the autumn days ahead, pair your new pal with our Felt Pumpkin Head Buddies to carry your décor from the final sunny days of summer straight into fall.
