To welcome Fall we were asked by our friends at Michaels to come up with Halloween pumpkin decorating ideas using props from their store. They have an amazing variety of craft pumpkins available in every color, shape and size you could ever want! We picked up this 13″ craft pumpkin and set about creating the perfect Halloween diorama to fit inside. Our little DIY haunted house, tree and picket fence are all made from paper and are brought to life with a couple little flickering LED tea lights. This is such a simple DIY Halloween project yet packs the ultimate spooky punch!

Make your Halloween Pumpkin Diorama!

We began by cutting a hole in one side of our craft pumpkin with a craft knife and painting the inside a soft gray blue color. We wanted our paper scene to be clearly visible so we made a little hill using air drying clay – perfect for our spooky house and bare bone trees to sit upon. Once our clay hill was dry we then covered it entirely with a layer of lush green moss. You can see our steps in the tutorial below.

To make the paper house, tree and garden fence we cut the designs using our Cricut Explore cutting machine. You can find the little house and details in both an SVG cut file as a PDF template in this post. We used a black metallic card stock from Michaels which is slightly shimmery on one side and a vellum for the little floating ghosts – perfect for our spooky diorama. Our paper craft pieces are put together and secured in place on the mossy hill with a little hot glue. Pop a flickering LED light in the back behind the hill, and one in the haunted house and you have yourself the perfect mantel decoration for this Halloween! Haunted_House_Diorama PumpkinDioramaTutorial Pumpkin_Diorama_Haunted_House
