Handsewn Felt Giraffes
Gentle Giants
We love making felt animal stuffies and even have a dedicated shelf for all of them. And yes, it’s a very long shelf, if you’re wondering—they’re just too cute to part with! Our designer May made these handsewn felt giraffes to go along with our felt elephants. Just like all our other stuffies, they’re adorable to look at and simple to make. Scroll down to see what tools and materials you’ll need to craft these cuties.

Benzie no longer carries Cantaloupe-colored felt. Can you suggest an alternative?
Hi Liz. Krista just went in and updated all of the felt colors. We actually sell felt in our own shop now. 🙂
Hi, Would it be possible to have a video showing precisely the different stitches you use? I’ve watched the felt 101 video but we don’t see up close, and if you are not a native speaker it’s a bit hard to follow 🙂
Also, I am a bit lost on the giraffe, from step 11. Do you sew the horn and one side, and then the ears? From step 11 it goes very fast, in my view, and it could use a few added extra steps for clarity…!
Thank you for your help / advices!
Hi Constance! We have a mini-course in the works with all of the stitches. Stay tuned as we will announce when that is available for you to watch. 🙂
I’m sorry if I didn’t clarify on my question. What type of stitching do yall use. For example, french knot, back, chain, stem, or satin.
Hi! We used a blanket stitch for the overall construction, and whip stitches for the spots. The ears were sewn with short straight stitches near the base to secure.
I would like to purchase just the giraffe pattern to make for grandson….I won’t have time to do other projects at this time….is it possible to purchase just the giraffe pattern?
Thank you,
Patricia McCarthy
Hi Patricia! We don’t have that option at this time. You can always sign up for a monthly membership, then cancel after you download the project (or before the month ends).
How do you getting 8 loops of dmc floss secured within the tail without the black floss slowing through the seam? either to much floss or tail felt not wide enough.
Try looping it one less time if it’s too stuffed to the point where it’s showing through the seam.
As an FYI – your pattern is a little off. Both the PDF and SVG call for 14 spots total (which would mean 7 for each side), but actually it should be 28 spots in total so each has 14. At least that’s what you have in your photos.
Melissa,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we will update the PDF 🙂
