One of my favorite ways to decorate for winter holidays is to bring the outdoors in with evergreen branches and pine cones. Creating long-lasting versions is a favorite with these other versions of crepe paper pine cones and pine branches. I was inspired by both, creating a new version from laminated copper and gold crepe paper mixed with the pretty long needles.
To begin this project, you can learn how to laminate crepe paper with this easy-to-follow video tutorial. Each crepe paper pine cone will use an average of 30 pieces so that you can cut enough for two cones on a 10×12 laminated piece of crepe.
Below is our list of tools and materials for this project. You can download the PDF template or the SVG file for your cutting machine using a rotary blade. Follow along with me in the replay of the live workshop to make these pretty branches that include long pine, pine cones, and silver twigs.
You can use these branches to decorate your mantel, place them into a vase for a centerpiece or use them to create a festive wreath. The wonderful thing is that you can use them year after year.

Hi, just a small question. I noticed that the pine cones are on stems of the branch. This was a puzzle to me and I started looking at all the pine trees near me. Not one of them had pine cones that had, essentially, stems. Is this something that only the trees in your particular area have?? Or, do they have stems for ease of attaching the pine cones? Just wondering, cause as always, I’m confused. I’ve really enjoyed the whole Christmas in July package. I have now signed up for the Flower Arranging class and also want to take the one on the Cricut so that I can get to know it a lot better. Thanks everyone!!!
Branches come in all shapes, but you can place them right off the branch rather than giving them a short stem, like we did. I added the extra length to give me some flexibility for use in an arrangement so the beautiful pine cones would not be hidden. 🙂

I am finishing up looking at making the pine branches and pine cones. Everything looks so great. I have one small problem. It is at the point when there is a question from Francis concerning twisting the pine needles. Lia answered the question, then talked about doing a different version done last winter. That’s great but I never heard the exact name of the class. Then, Emily said, “if you want to check out that twisted version” and that was it. This was at the point 43:10. I have no idea what she is talking about. Lia continued with saying, “that’s a good one too and it’s in that one we use heavy crepe paper”. I still did not hear any mention of the class. I realize that many people would know what you are talking about, however, even if I saw this version, I don’t remember things as well as I used to due to my increasing age. Please, it would be so helpful if instead of just mentioning some obscure note, at least tell us what class you’re talking about. I hope I haven’t confused you with this whole comment. Thanks for any help you can give me.
LOL! Too many things were flying all at once. I think I was the one confused. Here is a link to the twisted branch. This is made from the extra-fine crepe. I used a similar template to make it from double-sided, and with that paper, it does not need twisting.https://liagriffith.com/crepe-paper-pine-cone-branches/ So I would say it really depends on which paper you are using if you twist it.

Lia love the metalic paper for winter, but I would like to do them in white. Would the white heavy paper be heavy enough or do I laminate it to give it more body.
Are you thinking of white pinecones or white pine needles? Or both? It would be gorgeous in an all-white. I personally would make them both from the white+vanilla double-sided. https://feltpaperscissors.com/product/lia-griffith-crepe-paper-double-sided-white-vanilla/
I think the two-tone white would give it a lot of depth, whereas pure white might lose some details. For this, I would not use heavy crepe. But you can try it. Be sure and share pics! I really want to see this. 🙂
