If you made our macrame tote bags from last spring or if you’re ready to try something more challenging, this DIY project is perfect for you! Our macrame handbag uses six different knots and two hoops, making it more of an advanced macrame project.

To get started, all you need is some macrame cord, scissors, and two gold (or silver) hoops. Then just follow our step-by-step tutorial to craft your own version of this beautiful boho bag.

Get a handle on macrame

Don’t forget, we’re here to help you at whatever skill level you are at! If you are not quite ready for an advanced project like this macrame handbag, you may want to start with one of our beginner macrame projects instead. Or take our mini course to get some more practice with basic macrame knots.

Ready to get started? We think this macrame handbag will be so pretty to carry around on sunny days. Although we love the natural look of this bag, you could also craft it one of our other macrame cord colors. Be sure to reach out if you have any questions and make sure to share photos of your finished macrame purse on our private Facebook page for members or by tagging #MadeWithLia on Instagram.

Skill level: Advanced

Knots used: Larks Head Knot, Square Knot, Square Knot Sinnet, Alternating Square Knot, Button Knot, and Wrap Knot. Need a refresher? Check out our mini course on macrame knots.

Crafting tips: Be sure to complete the knots in one full row, working around the entire bag before moving onto the next row of knots. You need about 480 feet for this bag, which means you will need more than one spool of cord. I did over estimate with my cord length to be sure you don’t run out of cord. However you may be able to get away with using one spool if you shorten each cord to 7 ft instead of 10 ft.
