Become a MemberI like to carry a handful of beauty products in my handbag or my carry-on when I travel. See this post for all of my carry-on tips. So rather than just tossing them into the bottom of, how about making a zipper bag to keep everything in one place? This little bag is so easy to make, you may want a few for different groups of items too. I used a thicker semi-transparent vinyl that I found at my local fabric store for my bag and you can find clear of printed vinyl at most fabric or craft stores. This bag would also be great with an oilcloth, though I love how I can see the contents in my bag and have had great luck when going through the airline security using this as my liquids bag. Since I found this gorgeous gold zipper, I chose to sew it on the outside of the bag making it even easier to sew. I chose a gold thread to sew on the zipper and black for sides. You can follow my steps in the tutorial below to make this easy bag. Enjoy! ~ Lia

I couldn’t find any vinyl either – so I found an inexpensive shower curtain-!!
So smart!!
How do you do second stitch w/out stitching into the fabric underneath?
It should be big enough to keep that layer of fabric tucked under the machine so it doesn’t get sewn . But you can sew halfway up the zipper, then flip it around and finish the other side if need be.
I absolutely LOVE that bag. I was looking for a tutorial on a vinyl pouch to put in my daughter’S diaper bag. I was just wondering if you have a video tutorial of the pouch? I am a visual person and cannot figure out how to instal the second side of the zipper? Do you pin or clip??
Unfortunately we do not have a video, but you can refer to step #3 in the photos. You can pin or clip the zipper to secure in place and just sew the zipper down on the front.
For those who don’t get vinyl or oil Cloth: try to get clear self sticking foil. Stick the fabric between 2 layers of foil or only on one side (inside or outside, what you prefer) for wiping with a wet cloth. The self sticking foil is best sewn with a Teflon sewing foot.
I haven’t tried that but thanks for the suggestion, Kerstin!
Love the diy tutorial. What size did you start with for your vinyl?
The piece I used was 10″ x 14″ 🙂
Im loving this, the colors are perfect and the type of fabric used … I’m an avid crafter and I make all my kids Christmas gifts, this is going to be my inspiration for this years gifts. thinking of making one for my daughter and my 2 boys and the hubby ill make them a shaving bag for when they travel. Love it and Thank you for sharing !!!
Thank you so much for your sweet comments! That is such a good idea to use these as gift items!!
Do you think I could use canvas instead of vinyl?
Yes! Love canvas bags too. These are nice because they wipe clean but I do toss my canvas bags in the wash now and again.
I’m thinking about recreating this bag but I’m having a hard time finding the vinyl fabric, any suggestions on where to look?
I got mine at a local fabric store but beginning to wish I had bought their entire stock. A few of my readers have had problems fining it others have found it no problem at all. Have you looked online?
I love this bag ! I’m loving the nice colors , they are perfect all season long !
Thank you, it is one of my favorites. I don’t go anywhere without it and it makes it so much easier to find things vs. digging through my bag:)
Soo nice, and just at bag for me to make :0) Thank’s for inspiration. Hey from Denmark
I love this bag!
Lia, I tried to locate your fabric, with no luck. Can you enlighten us with your source?
I bought it a while ago at a local fabric store. Hope you can find it!
Oh pretty!! Thanks so much! 🙂
🙂
Very clever and I love the gold zipper. I, too, would display that on the outside not only for the “wow” impact but, best of all, because it’s easier to install! Kudos to you!!! BTW…what is the bottom, second from left item?
It is a “g” that hangs on my keychain:)
Love this. Another home run and a project placed at the top of my to-do list!
Thanks so much, and, again your signature brand of styling is a huge winner!
Thank you! I really do love styling, can you tell;-)
I love the gold zipper!! Where did you find it?
Hi Bonnie, I found the gold zipper at my local fabric store. They might have it at Fabric Depot, I didn’t see it online but would be surprised if they don’t carry it.
That bag is soooo cute. I love it. You did a fabulous job… 🙂
Thank you! I love my new zipper bags, so much easier to stay organized. My bag is sometimes like a big black hole;-)
