Make a Tropical Paper Flower Lei

If you are planning a Luau or tropical party this summer, what a better way to add a splash of color than give each guest a handmade paper lei. You can also decorate your tropical drink straws with these pretty blooms. I promise that these will be a big hit at your summer celebration!
For this lei I used metallic papers that I selected from paper-papers.com. I used the frosted text weight of Punch, Amethyst, Lime Satin and Gold. You can find all of the tools and materials needed listed on the right hand side at the top of this post – including links to our top-match paper picks from our shop for this project. Of course you can choose the tropical colors to coordinate with your colorful party.
These flowers are so simple to make and easy to assemble into a lei. Though you can cut each by hand, I am also offering the SVG files for you to use on your cutting machines. Of course I did use my Cricut Explore, making this even simpler to create. For each lei I cut 12 of each of the three blooms and 32 leaves. Each lei uses 2 sheets of the Punch, Amethyst and Lime and one sheet of Gold, so 7 total per lei. Once you have your blooms cut you can follow my step-by-step tutorial below to assemble your leis. For the straws, I simply hot glued two blooms and one leaf to a lime green chevron straw.
Thanks Paper Papers for hosting the printable template and SVG file. Just click onto the button below and it will take you to their site where you can download. Cheers! ~ Lia

My daughter wanted a white leis which we couldn’t find. I offered to attempt a Cricut leis, picked out a few flower shapes I thought would work, but checked on line for ideas before proceeding. Then I came across your pattern! It is just so beautiful! DD thinks it’s perfect! I cannot thank you enough for bringing us so much joy! Thank you! We are going to make a larger flower for her hair!
That’s wonderful to hear Barbara, I’m so glad you found us!!
this is awesome!!!! so cool!!! I’m gonna make it!!! thank you <3 <3 <3
So glad you like it!! đ
Haces cosas maravillosas LĂa,
Enhorabuena ?
Thank you! đ
Love the leis. Do you happen to know how the text paper compares to Bazzill papers carried at Joann’s? I can’t find any kind of weight listed on Joanns or Bazzill’s websites. I have a cricut machine and want to make leis now. I think the Bazzill paper would work as I’m running into a time issue. Thanks!
The only Bazzill brand paper I’ve used has been cardstock. I prefer text weight for my paper flowers since I’m able to curl the petals and leaves, and they look more delicate and realistic đ But give the cardstock a try!
What a fun project! The great thing is that if you want you could recycle the paper after the event. Love it!
Absolutely:-)
how much flowers of each type have you done?
The pattern and tutorial states how many of each flower per lei.
