VIDEO: Paper Apple Blossom Branches to Celebrate Spring
Paper Apple Blossom Branch That Lasts A Lifetime!
Make some paper apple blossom and welcome the Spring into your home! Spring is upon us and everything is beginning to bloom. Flowers are gorgeous of course, but when I am just taking a walk around the neighborhood, it is the blooming branches and trees that always stand out to me. So this spring I am feeling inspired do an update on my branches from a couple years ago. I decided to make these apple blossom blooms a bit smaller than my previous branches, and instead of using a watercolor wash to accentuate the color, I added some detailing with art markers. When I was asked to demo a spring flower on Seattle’s morning show New Day Northwest, I was so excited by the opportunity to reveal this new apple blossom!

Become a MemberApple blossoms typically include white flowers with hints of blush pink. To recreate this soft and delicate look, I used brush tip art markers to add the pink. You should be able to find these at any art supply or craft store. I have had luck with Copic markers in the past, and for this project I decided to use Tombow brand. These markers are water-based, which makes them kid friendly! To make these apple blossom branches, start by choosing your metallic papers. I used a shimmery white for the blooms, and two shades of green for the leaves (see Shop this Project below!). You will also need a light yellow for the centers of the blooms.

Once you have your paper ready, use the PDF template below if you are cutting by hand, or the SVG file if you are using a cutting machine. After you cut your blooms, use your brush tip pens to add the pink to the centers. I used the Flesh color (#850) Tombow pen, and then used a Blender (#000) to soften the look of the color change. Now you can curl your petals and add your centers. Follow my simple step-by-step tutorial below to put these branches together!
These paper apple blossom branches are beautiful to add to your DIY home decor. I love the idea of using them to decorate a spring table setting, or to hang on your wall for a DIY art piece. Make a mix of my larger branches with these smaller apple blossom branches to create depth in a floral arrangement. Whatever you do, make sure to enjoy the season and take in all the beautiful flowers and greenery blooming around you! Hi Lia,
The links for the light pink brush pen and the blender brush pen is not working. Please let me know the links please. Thanks!
Thanks for pointing that out, Joyce. I have updated all the links for this project.
Will this pattern also work with crepe paper? I was planning on giving it as a gift but would prefer that it is crepe paper because I like that look so much better. Thanks for all your beautiful designs!
I would not use this version for crepe paper as you will need your petals to be separate so you can use the grainline of the crepe in the correct direction for the best results. Here is a similar project in crepe: https://liagriffith.com/crepe-paper-blooming-branch/
Also, if you have not taken our master class yet, it starts in February and we make a gorgeous blooming branch in that course. You can sign up here: https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/crepe-paper-master-course/
The SVG is nothing like the PDF, is there instructions on how to make r
The flower with all the pieces I have cut out?
Hi Barb! The PDF is the same pattern as the SVG. The instructions download and photo tutorial included in the post will guide you to making the apple blossoms.
Any tips on cutting staman tiny little circles without cutting machine?
I would just fringe the paper, and not worry about the circles!
Slide number six says “glue the bud together, starting with the smaller tabs, then the longer ones”. But the pdf instructions read “Glue the bud together starting with the longer pieces then the smaller ones on top.”
Which one is it?
Thank you. I love doing all the projects I’ve done before … just stumped on this one.
Thanks for catching the discrepancy! It will be easier if you start by gluing the longer tab, then glue the small tabs on top.
Why can’t I ever download your free pdf? It is quite annoying.
Can you please assist me in this matter?
Thx,
Tammie
Hi Tammie. This is premium downloads for monthly members which is easy to join at just $5 a month (less than one PDF template on Etsy). We do have a section of free downloads that you can find on our top menu. Hope that helps.
