An Adorable DIY Garland for Your Valentine’s Day Decor
If you are hosting a Valentine’s Day get together, or if you are a teacher wanting to decorate your classroom for the occasion, the easiest way to decorate is with a simple paper garland. To create a sweet atmosphere, our illustrator Krista made these cute x’s and o’s in the shape of donuts. Grab some of your favorite colors of paper and craft up this Valentine’s Day garland in less than an hour!
Tools & Materials
- Scissors or Cutting Machine
- Lia Griffith Cardstock – Bright Pink Pack, Teal Pack and Kraft Pack
- String or Baker’s Twine
Assembling your Valentine’s Day Garland
Start by downloading the template for the garland below – use the SVG version with a cutting machine or the PDF version if you are cutting by hand. We used our Cricut and cut onto three layers of paper. Because we wanted these to resemble cute donut illustrations, we cut the bottom layer onto kraft paper, the middle layer onto glitter cardstock and the top layer onto pastel colors of cardstock. Create whatever color combos appeal to you! If you are using the PDF version, you can simply print onto white cardstock paper. Krista also included an outline version of the XO design that kids (or adults!) can use as a coloring project.
When you’re ready to string your DIY garland together, grab some cute baker’s twine and cut a length to match the size you want. For ease, we just used regular tape to attach the twine. Just make sure to attach the string to the top of the letters rather than the middle so the garland will hang naturally.
