Every year we like to share some new DIY ornaments with you. And this year is no exception! If you are looking for some easy ornaments to make with a cutting machine, this project is perfect for you. Everything you need to make these Scandinavian wood ornaments is linked below in our tools and materials list.
If you already have your ornaments set for the year, you could also hang them up around your home or use them as gift toppers. Another pretty idea would be to hang a few from your winter berry branch — another project in our December collection.

How wood you like to decorate your tree?
We have been having fun with wood veneer lately! Last month we shared these really cute winter sprig ornaments that Krista made out of wood veneer and chipboard. And now for our December collection, Lindsay has designed these Scandinavian wood ornaments. Due to the type of material and intricate designs, we recommend using a Cricut cutting machine with a deep cut blade and StrongGrip cutting mat.
Ready to get started? Our download at the bottom of the post includes five different designs — craft them all or choose your favorites to make!
Tips
Wood veneer will cut best using a deep-cut blade on a StrongGrip mat. You can tape down the edges of your veneer on all four sides to ensure it does not move while cutting. Use these as ornaments on your tree — or tied to a present for a unique gift topper!

Hi – the link out for the blade is for the Cricut explore – can i use the same for the Cricut maker?
Thanks!
No, they have different housing. I updated to add the blade for the Maker. Thank you for pointing this out.
Hi! Could I do these with cardstock? If so what would you recommend I change?
This would work great in card stock. You could even cut two layers (two colors) and glue them together.
May I ask how thick is the wood veneer that you use and what settings should I use on my cricut explore air 2? Thanks!
We used the Cricut brand wood veneer (link in post), according to their site it’s about .5mm thick. We used the wood veneer setting with a deep cut blade to cut!
