Crepe Paper Plum Sunflower – Member Make Workshop
One of fall’s ultimate super flowers is the golden, gorgeous sunflower. Unbeknownst to some, sunflowers can come in a variety of colors and shades, not just ubiquitous yellow. This Crepe Paper Plum Sunflower is the first we’ve designed, and we’re so excited to introduce this pretty purple flower for this month’s Member Make workshop.
Below, you’ll find a list of the tools and materials you’ll need to make your crepe paper plum sunflower. If you’d like to be extra prepared, feel free to download and cut the flower pattern ahead of time, then join us on Friday, September 22 at 12:00 noon PST for our live workshop! If you miss it, no worries; we’ll post the video here!
This video is for members only.

Plum’s the Word
We love the romantic feel of this purple-petaled sunflower and feel it’s such an appropriate choice for this transition into fall. The petals fade from golden burgundy to creamy white, similar to a freshly bitten plum. The light edges and deepening centers of this flower will add beautiful contrasting tones to your floral arrangements.
We consider this an advanced-level craft, but don’t let that intimidate you. Our Member Make is designed to be collaborative and supportive — so give it a try; you won’t be alone. We’ll walk you through all the steps, like adding a bit of yellow and magenta to the center of your flower with PanPastel to give it a little dimension. Also, the centers of these are densely packed fringe, so you’ll want to be sure to have your fringe clip and detail scissors on hand.
We’re especially excited to see your crepe paper plum sunflowers when you’re all finished, so make sure to share them with us! Post your photos on our crafter’s community page or on Instagram with the hashtag #MemberMake.

Do you have to enlarge any off the pieces.thanks Deb
If you use the templates at the full size (100%) you should not need to.
BTW my pencil set is Prismacolor. CC
Those should be good!
I had so much fun making these. Thanks as always for sharing your amazing talents with us. Question: When I did mine I was unable to get much of a line with my pencil. The pencil I used was from a good set of pencils and I used pan pastel like you did here.
Thanks, CC
Hi Charlene! Try a darker color. And, make sure your paper is completely dry. Let me know if that works. So happy you loved this project!
Is this only available as svg?
There is a PDF template available with the downloads as well.
Not sure if it’s me or not
I have never had trouble before downloading from the site.
When the file unzips it shows the thumbnails buut when I click on it it doesn’t open
Using safari on my iPad and saving to files as always ???
Hi there,
We don’t use iPads or phones in the studio to make projects. We always recommend using a desktop computer as it is much easier to use for craft projects. However, if you do want to continue to use your mobile device, our affiliate partner has some useful directions here: https://jennifermaker.com/upload-svg-files-cricut-design-space-iphone-ipad/
I’m having trouble with the video this morning. Sound keeps going on and off. Thought it was my internet so I reset it. But still having issues. Went to other video elsewhere they were ok. Thanks.
Hi Rebecca, the video is working fine on our end. I would suggest refreshing your browser to see if that fixes the issue.
I would like to ask a Cricut question. When I uploaded the SVG onto the Cricut to cut out the leaves, a sign came up to inform me that it was too large and could not be cut out. Since I’m an extreme novice when it comes to the Cricut (this is actually the first time I have dared to cut something out), I had no idea why this was so, especially since you made up the SVG. Any answers?? Also, a very small matter, but it caused me to miss some of the video. When I made a copy of the materials needed there were only 2 PanPastels on the list. When the video played I found out that there was a 3rd color I needed to have, Hans Yellow 220.3. Although not a big deal, I then had to run around trying to find the PanPastel, which I knew I had, but needed to find. It truly flustered me and I was not in the mood to further view the video and had to continue it on Saturday. I know mistakes happen, but I just needed to mention this. This is a lovely flower and I’m glad we were able to make it. Thanks for what you do.
Hi Hellen, you need to hide the group with the box and cut notes before cutting. If you have not checked out our video guides for cutting on the Cricuit I would highly recommend them, we have a few in mini courses and a more in depth skills course. All of these videos can be found in the Craft Academy and are included in your membership! https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/
I want a large artichoke pillow for my couch! Those artichokes are too divine. Thank you so much for all the inspiration and guidance. You guys are a super team and I love watching you in action. Best, Fran
An artichoke pillow would be so fun! You could definitely increase the size of this pattern to make it into a pillow…and maybe take some of the construction tips from our blueberry pillow! https://liagriffith.com/felt-blueberry-pillow/
Just beautiful!! Thank you for a great lesson and so much inspiration.
maeci
J ai toujours un doute, le papier crépon ferns et moss c’est bien le papier crépon vert très clair d’un côté? ( je prépare le cours sur les tournesols ) merci
Actually, it is not the lighter color. That is green tea and moss. But use what you have.
Is the class really at 12:00 am, as in midnight? Wondered is that was a typo and you meant noon?
You are right! Noon. 😉
I have the Prismacolor pencil #PC924 . Would that be ok? It is called crimson red
That should work!
Is there a bundle with this flower?
Yes there is! https://feltpaperscissors.com/product/lia-griffith-member-make-paper-bundle-september-2023/
On the SVG file there are only 7 small petals. Are there supposed to be 8?
Thank you!
Thank you for catching this mistake Pamela! There are meant to be 8 small petals 🙂 The SVG has been updated.
I can’t find the instructions – I have the pdf and the svg.
The instructions will be added after the LIVE video. 🙂
Is there an svg template for this flower? I only see PDF
They are both in the zipped folder. We are doing a new process where we add everything into one folder to make it easier for you to download.
Hi Lua, where would I find a process red pencil?
There is a link in the text that includes the Prismacolor set we sell. If you want to just buy one pencil, check your local art store for this brand. They will often sell one at a time.
I’m excited to make these! They are beautiful!
The color!!!! And is has been a long time since we made a new sunflower.
