Simple Fabric Gift Bags for Bottles
Give Thanks
A great go-to gift for any time of year is a pretty bag holding your favorite bottled beverage. To add that extra DIY step, I have included a super easy tutorial on how to make fabric gift bags for bottles. To make your gift bags stand out, I have three iron-on designs you can download below.
Our “give thanks” wine bottle gift bag is especially perfect for Thanksgiving dinner or a fall harvest feast. You could also make a “celebrate” gift bag for any occasion or put the first initial of your host’s name on your gift bag for a more personal touch. Since this project does require some sewing, an even simpler option would be our printable gift labels for wine bottles.

Become a MemberTo make your own gift bag, you will need a piece of 7″x34″ fabric that will be folded in half lengthwise to measure 7″x17″. I used a set of pretty hemp fabric for mine and you can choose something that matches your style. I like a thicker fabric for these bags, so you can also look at some interior fabrics for inspiration.
You will also need 20-30″ of ribbon to tie around the neck of your bottle. Then just follow the steps in the tutorial below on how to create your fabric gift bags with your sewing machine.
Once I completed these fabric gift bags, I added a pretty iron-on vinyl that I cut on my Cricut Explore. We have included the SVG cut file if you have a cutting machine and a PDF template if you would like to use a printable iron-on. Remember that the printable version will be reversed so that it reads correctly when finished. The Cricut will prompt you to reverse for your iron-on material.

What fabric did you use?
I found a really nice hemp fabric at my local fabric shop, but really you could use anything that feels sturdy enough to hold a bottle of wine 🙂
Really love the bags for bottles, so easy and so much nicer than the same paper ones. Appropriate for any occasion from wedding gift, birthday, Christmas. None of our friends drink much but we have a winery in East Texas that has a light wine that everyone has loved. I’m thinking of putting wine glass markers on the ribbon, maybe with a thin cordinating ribbon to hold them in place or a small stitch. Enjoy your page and am going to try the pine cone owls with my granddaughters this weekend while their parents are out. Maybe Thanksgiving decoration because they
won’t be able to last long with out giving them out. Love the idea of food allergy flags, makes it easy on everyone! Thank you for sharing your ideas with easy instructions.
Thank you so much, this is so sweet! I’m so glad you like these bags, they are a great way to dress up a simple gift like wine, and they are very easy to make! And it doesn’t have to be just for wine 😉 You could use them for olive oil, or large bottles of vanilla, or whatever! Your ribbon idea sounds fabulous. Happy holidays to you and your family!! -Lia
