Learn to Watercolor: Tulip Artwork
Let's Dive into Watercolor!
Spring is in the air, and what better way to celebrate than a fun creative project that adds a splash of color? I've always found tulips to be the best symbol of the spring season. Their simple shapes and bright hues speak to innocence, renewal, and new beginnings.
This project combines my love of flowers with the magic of watercolor painting. We're going to create stunning tulip artwork, and the best part is that it's fun for everyone, whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting to dip your toes into the world of watercolor.

Tulip Drawing on Watercolor Paper
This is more than just a paint-by-number tulip – it's a chance to learn watercolor techniques and express your own creativity!
To make it super easy for you, I've arranged a beautiful tulip drawing that you can print right onto watercolor paper with any laser printer.
If you do not have a laser printer, you can trace the artwork with a permanent pen, like a fine-point sharpie by placing the watercolor paper over the print and placing it onto a lightbox or against a window. The artwork is simple to draw and this method will add that handmade touch.
Using watercolor paper for the final art really makes a difference. It adds a gorgeous texture and works well with the color pigments.
Adding the Watercolor
To bring these watercolor tulips to life, we'll use a simple paint palette.
I'm excited to have my daughter, Emily, guide you through the process!
Many of you know Emily is a talented artist, and she has a wonderful way of making watercolor feel approachable and fun.
In the watercolor video tutorial in this post, she'll share her watercolor tips and techniques for creating depth, dimension, and those lovely color variations that make watercolor painting so captivating.
Forget those paint-by-number kits – this is about letting your own colors flow!
Sharing Your Art!
Once you've completed your watercolor tulip painting, let it dry fully. If your paper is still warped, press it between two books, or with a dry iron and pressing cloth.
Now it is ready to frame and display, or you can easily size it down to create the most heartfelt Easter cards or Mother's Day cards. And wouldn't a personalized, hand-painted tulip be a perfect spring birthday gift? The possibilities are endless!
So, gather your watercolor supplies, get ready to be inspired by Emily's tips and tricks in her watercolor tutorial, and let's welcome spring with open arms and a riot of color. I can't wait to see your stunning watercolor tulip creations!

Love the watercolors prints. Thank you.
Yay! Maybe we can do more!
Are the colors in the paint set you recommend for this project different from the 36 color set you also have. Love this can’t wait to try my hand at painting.
We carry this small one too. You can use either one! 🙂
