Today’s DIY project is a new twist on an old favorite! Grilled hotdogs are a 4th of July staple and summertime classic—as are burgers. Since we already have a felt burger, we thought it would be fun to create a felt hot dog. So, we turned to our designer Krista, who is responsible for creating all of our amazing felt food toys, and this is what she came up with!

Frankly, We Love Felt

Felt is one of our favorite crafting materials, especially when it comes to kids’ toys. It’s soft, easy to work with, and comes in so many great colors. For this felt hot dog, our designer Krista used eight different colors of felt. You can find all of these colors linked below, but you can always use what you prefer. However, the quality of your felt does matter!

Along with your felt hot dog, you can make all the standard toppings, including ketchup, mustard, onions, and relish. If you craft a few grilled hot dogs and topping choices, your kiddo can serve up different options for everyone playing along. And if the felt hot dogs are being roasted over a campfire, we highly recommend some felt s’mores for dessert!

• Lia Griffith’s Wool Blend Felt –Camel, Vanilla, Hazelnut, Cherry, White, Sunshine, Fern and Moss
• Embroidery Floss — DMC Tan, Light Brown, White, Bright Christmas Red, Topaz, and Dark Hunter Green
• Art Markers — Blick Studio Brush Markers in Black (020)
• Dritz Disappearing Ink Marking Pen
• Stuffie Puff
• Glue Dot Roller or Glue Stick
• Cardstock Printer Paper

How to Make a Felt Hot Dog

1. Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download our pattern at the end of this post.
2. Cut out felt pieces according to the pattern, using scissors or a Cricut Maker.
3. Using the template for the hot dog bun, draw on the dart guides with a fabric pen.
4. Fold down the middle of the drawn dart and sew along the marked guideline to make a dart using matching embroidery floss.
