Become a MemberGrowing up in the pacific northwest, one of our favorite summertime activities was camping! I have fond memories of weekends exploring the woods and making evening campfires. This memory sparked a creative idea for me this month, and that was to make an adorable kid’s play tent for little ones.
This tent is a perfect match for some of our other kid’s camping themed projects. For example, you can add our felt campfire, these adorable fox and owl pillows, and even our new paper camping lanterns.
I camp believe it’s only for kids!
For this kid’s play tent, you will need to start with the wooden frame. You can make your own or find the one I purchased on Etsy from Burnt Java. This frame is made from light wood and is easy to fold down and store. If you decide to make your own frame, use the download below for the dimensions for the tent cover.
I designed the cover for the tent with a collection of illustrations that simply warmed my heart. The details of the little animals, birds, and insects are matched with wildflowers, mushrooms, and foliage. I have to tell you that I had such a blast designing this kid’s play tent that I couldn’t stop. So I added a fun camp flag and stump stool. Plus as you will see in an upcoming post, I also designed a matching campfire.
This kid’s play tent is perfect for children ages 2–6. You can order the printed tent set fabric at Spoonflower with all the instructions and steps printed right on the fabric itself. I recommend the linen-cotton canvas as it is light yet sturdy and easy to sew. If you want to use your own fabric for this tent frame, you will find measurements for that version in the download below along with a printable version of the instructions.
I truly believe that giving children a bit of staging for the play and imagination is a delightful way to increase their creative flow. And this little tent is sure to create a delightful summer!

I love this and would like to make for my grand niece. How many yards do we need to order from Spoonflower for the complete tent , stumps and fire. I had thought I’d read 5 yds. But now I can’t find those instructions-I’m probably overlooking them.Thank you for great projects, you and your team are fabulous.
Hi Molly,
You are correct and will need to order 5 yards from Spoonflower to get the complete tent design, we have added this to our post! 🙂
Hi!
I am unable to find this fabric on the Spoonflower link. Please advise!
Thanks!;

Hi Bonnie! The link is in the post under “Materials”. https://www.spoonflower.com/en/fabric/10162891-kid-s-play-tent-set-by-liagriffith?fabric=linen_cotton_canvas
Lia, did you paint the bottom of the tent? It is absolutely incredible. I love all the June collection and can’t wait to wade into it. You knocked it outside of the park.

Thanks Sharon! This is a printed fabric that will be available at Spoonflower. The illustrations are from an artist that I worked with and are so sweet.
I’m unable to find the link for the stump.
Hi Nancy! The stump is part of the fabric design available on Spoonflower.
Thanks, I did not see it but will look again.
