Painted Crepe Paper Poppies
How pretty are these painted crepe paper poppies that Meagan designed? Poppies generally bloom in late spring and early summer. But by making your flowers out of paper, you can enjoy them even earlier — and longer!
In our tutorial, we will show you how to achieve the beautifully crumpled look of these poppies using heavy crepe paper. To balance out the delicate nature of these flowers, we used text weight paper for the leaves.

For our painted crepe paper poppies, we chose two lighter shades and added a pop of vibrant color with the coral crepe. You can choose whatever colors you prefer for your arrangement. To add more detail to our poppies, we also painted the petals and splattered them with watercolors.
Skill Level: This is a great paper flower for beginners as the flower pattern is easy to cut by hand, and you could use the fringe scissors to fringe the stamen. However, since the watercolors we used aren’t named, you will have to get a little creative and choose (or mix) the colors you like when splattering your flowers. You can always test your colors on scraps first before painting your finished flowers!
Crafting tips: To get a nice splatter, grab a second paintbrush and hold it horizontal. Tap the paintbrush you are painting with on the other paintbrush over the petal you are splattering to get a nice and consistent splatter. Don’t worry about getting the crepe paper too wet while using watercolor. Just be gentle, and the crepe paper will dry back in its original form.
