Become a MemberI love having a covered front porch on this 1920’s craftsman house and have been planning for a while to update it with fresh paint and some decor. I feel that porches and decks can be extended living space and enjoyed at least part of the year here in rainy Portland and that is how I wanted to decorate it, as a place to sit to drink my morning coffee or evening beverage with a friend. You may remember my post about how I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® to give a new look the to matching rocking chairs. With this being my main focus on the sitting area of the porch, I broke the space into two focal area, the other being the front door. The first thing that started my porch project was to prep and paint. My go-to paint is always Sherwin-Williams so I was delighted to find that they would team with me on my porch project and supply all of my paint and painting materials. I chose Emerald Exterior Latex in Satin Seaworthy #7620 for the door and trim and Porch & Floor Enamel Folkstone #6005 for the deck and steps. These colors were a similar match for what had been most recently painted but pushed the front door color a tad the direction of teal from the current Navy blue. Once the porch was power washed and prepped, the transformation was quick. As I always say. . . the fastest way to change a room is to update or change the paint color. That goes for covered porches too. For my decor, I only used things I already had in my house or had recently made, which gave me a fun afternoon of “shopping” my house and prop shelves. At the end of this post I have a list of all my sources and items, so take a little tour and I’ll see you there. ~ Lia

I give anything to have a house like this. I love being outside in all seasons.
Hi Debra, we’re so glad you enjoyed the tour. We love being outside during all the seasons too!
I am searching for colors to paint my new house an i LOVE this combination! it is beautiful. what color did you use for the siding on the whole house?? My husband will be happy that i have finally made up my mind 😀
Oh my gosh! I am glad that you like it! But I actually do not know what the color is called. The siding was the only part of the porch that I didn’t update with paint unfortunately. I just gave it a power wash to brighten up the color. Best of luck with your color search!!

hello lia,
again – it’s such fun seeing how people with taste create their surroundings 🙂
I like your wide door, the wreath on it, and how you made your porch cozy and inviting. I love the doormat with the G on it – very elegant.
all the best, stephie
Thanks Stephie! It was fun styling with things I already had too.
I had the privilege of attending your recent workshop and Lisa Frank is right – though fabulous in this post, in person your front porch is even more inviting, warm and spectacular. Thank you for all you share with all of us and thank you for a great workshop.
Thanks! It was great to meet you Becky!
Your front porch is wonderful! I can imagine sitting out there for many hours. 🙂
Love the colors you’ve used.
Come on over Stacey! 😉
I used to live in Hillsboro and remember all the lovely Craftsman style homes in the area. With all the rain, it is so nice to have that covered porch to stand on while waiting for someone to answer the door! Or while you fumble with house keys with an armload of groceries! Your porch is just gorgeous; I really love the colors you chose!
Thanks Barbara! It is a nice added touch to a house for all those reasons for sure. Nice curb appeal too.
Beautiful Lia! I love your color choices and gorgeous decorations – it feels so inviting.

PS: The photo of your pup by the door is adorable, by the way 🙂
Thanks Melissa! I thought about adding where I found him too. Enzo is my little Doxi rescue dog and I just love him.
I just love your front door. The colour is gorgeous.
Thanks Pia! I love how it is a little wider than most doors too.
It looks really wonderful! I like the slight change in colors that you chose, and your floral wreath is really lovely!
The door looks navy in some light and bright teal in others. I was really happy how the wreath came together too. 🙂
I looks so welcoming! Love it!
It’s even prettier in person, too! Such a welcoming and cozy front porch. Love that teal, Lia!
Thanks Lisa!
