Heavy Crepe Paper Jumbo Poppies
We've been getting more requests lately to make larger flowers that you can use as wall decor. So here you go! Last month Meagan made these frosted paper dahlia medallions. And now for our April collection she has designed these jumbo crepe paper poppies in three different sizes — small, medium, and large. Because all of the shapes are large, this is an easy project to cut by hand. But you can always use our SVG file with your Maker or Silhouette 4.

- 20mm Cotton Spun Paper Balls — For small poppy
- 30mm Cotton Spun Paper Balls — For medium and large poppy
- 24-Gauge White Paper Covered Wire
- Tacky Glue
- Mod Podge – Matte
- Cardboard

Playing with poppies
There is something so whimsical and playful about poppies. Plus they look so dreamy and delicate! These jumbo crepe paper poppies would be perfect for a baby shower, bridal shower, or other special event. Of course you could also use them as home decor.

Crafting tips: Allow the Mod Podge to dry on the petals until it is no longer tacky but isn’t hard yet (it will take about an hour, maybe less if it is warm). You will then crumple the petals and shape them. Once they are shaped, let the Mod Podge dry fully.
How to make Jumbo Crepe Paper Poppies
- Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download the flower pattern below.
- Cut crepe paper according to template notes using scissors or a cutting machine.
- Paint one side of each petal with Mod Podge.
- Cover the ball with the round center piece of crepe using tacky glue; center the circle over the hole in the ball.

Leave a CommentI would like to try hanging these, or maybe your new peonies from this month’s new member make, in a window but I am thinking that the back sides of the flowers wouldn’t be great to look at. So I have two questions: (1) how would you hang these if you were to suspend them with monofilament or something like that? – and – (2) How could I make the back sides look, if not as beautiful as the fronts, at least not unpleasant to look at? Thank you – I love everything you make!
You can use large leaves to cover the back of the cardboard rounds. Green leaves are always gorgeous. Share pics when you are done! 🙂

Question: GM! I am working on the Jumbo Poppy. There’s a step not included in materials. The photo instructions state; 6 inch wire fold in half. Then press both ends thru cardboard.? What size cardboard and how thick?
Next step is to glue crepe circle over both sides of the cardboard with tacky glue or mod podge.
I don’t have the pattern for the circle either but imagine could figure that out once cardboard dimensions were identified.

Has anyone tried this but with darker coloured crepe? Would the dried modge podge leave whitish residue marks on the crepe???
Hi Erin! Mod podge dries clear on darker colors of crepe.
I am impatiently waiting for the Mod Podge to dry! I do have a question – I am new to making paper flowers. What sort of surface do you use to create? I have been using my quilt cutting mat but now I have hot glue blobs and stains form the crepe paper… I’d like a better idea!

We have a large roll of kraft paper attached to the craft table! Also look for a silicone craft mat– they are great for hot glue (the blobs come off so easily when dry)!
